Extended stay in Paris (apt search help)
I will be in Paris from early Jan to mid March, on an exchange program. I am looking for a place to live there preferably in the 8th or the 17th arrondisement. I will be attending ESSEC and I would like to be as close to the RER as possible because is a long commute. If you know of a better location to recommend for living is also welcomed. I was thinking the 8th or the 17th are northwest in the direction towards ESSEC. I am a graduate student so I am looking for something reasonably priced since I know how expensive Paris can be. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Fodorites have been a great help and resource in all of my travels, and this will be my second time in Paris!! Soo excited =)
Thank you!!
Thank you!!

Ayquehago--
We just went through this process with another business school in Paris.
To your advantage is that you have been in Paris before and can understand Metro/RER. To your disadvantage, finding an three-month apartment rental can be both difficult and expensive.
Could you answer these questions?
Which ESSEC campus--Cergy-Pontoise or La Defense?
Does ESSEC offer any type of help with finding housing?
In the meantime, I wrote a long entry about trying to find an apartment for the fall for my daughter in Paris. So click on my name and you'll find all that information. Again, it's really long. It even includes a packing list. A short summary...
We ended up using an agency and paying big bucks for agency fees. The process--both researching all the options and working with one agency--was still very, very long.
Helpful links to get you started:
My daughter is not attending the American University of Paris (AUP), but we used a lot of their information to get a grip in the absence of any useful help from her school's US and French so-called coordinators. Here are two AUP publications:
The Ultimate Guide to AUP Housing (which came out AFTER we leased our apartment and just before we left)--http://www.aup.edu/pdf/Housing/AUP_HousingBrochure.pdf
AUP Pre-Orientation Guide--
http://www.aup.edu/pdf/Admissions/AUP_GettingReady.pdf
This document is better than the previous versons we found earlier in the summer. It has a nice introduction into the CampusFrance/French Visa situation.

Note that much of the information is offered in English:

Do you live in an apartment that you could swap for a place in the 8th or 17th?
Both of these services are very well-regarded:
