Exhibitions (and "newly" available art) in Florence right now
As far as I can see, the only temporary exhibitions in Florence between this Xmas and New Year are "Francis Bacon and the Existential Condition in Contemporary Art" (the kind of show I'd normally book a holiday on the other side of the world to escape), and "The Thirties: Art beyond Fascism" (fine, and possibly worth seeing if Islington didn't have more than enough bloody Futurism in the Estorick already)
There's plenty of real art to squeeze into our few days' Florentine rest after hillwalking anyway, so I'm not moaning. But is there really no obscure insight into Ghiberti's private life, or recently restored fresco in a nice Dominican church, that's currently on show and unlikely to be viewable next time?
And to be really lazy: what proper stuff (post Roman, pre Baroque) is now visible in Florence and its immediate hinterland that wasn't ten years ago?

PS:
I said "post Roman". But anything newly revealed about pre-Roman Tuscany (I've got the Etruscan rooms at the Archaeological Museum on my list already) would be nice to know about.

Not in the 'art exhibition' category, but I recommend the Palazzo Davanzati for a view to how the wealthy merchant classes lived. Collections of majolica, lace (excellent), furnishings, paintings, etc. Self-guided through lower floors and reservations required for tour of the upper levels. This palazzo has been a museum since the 1950s but re-opened in about 2005-6 after an extensive renovation.
