Ex-pat sites with American perspective?
I asked this on a longer message/line but thought it might get a response quicker this way...

I have been looking for ex-pat sites and have found many from a British perspective. Are there any sites/newsgroups that are specifically from an American point-of-view?
Try this site. It's Italy only, but Yahoo probably has expat sites for other countries as well.

http://groups.msn.com/expatsinItaly

I'm an American expat living in Shanghai. My personal favorite is:

http://boards2.parentsplace.com/messages/get/ppexpatriates41.html

Many of the people there are American.

(Don't be concerned about the fact that it's on ParentsPlace - I used to spend quite a bit of time there and I'm not a parent! Most of the conversation doesn't center around parenting).

Many countries also have their own expat pages, (like the cz & Italy one above), so you might try searching on Google for "expatriate" and the country you're interested in.

Good luck!

I should also mention that on the ivillage/Parentsplace site, don't get discouraged if you check it and none of the current posts seem relevant.

Basically, the regulars there tend to "hang out" and get off the topic of expat life, but they are FABULOUS if you want to post specific questions. If you post any questions you may have, you will get many, many helpful responses.

Good luck!

Amy,
Try these!
www.expatexchange.com -International, but set up by country
www.expatforum.com
www.liveabroad.co m
www.expatexpert.com--good reference

Also, depending on where you are living, try a search of the Yahoo message boards. There are many set up specifically for expats in a specific country. Some are more American in flavor than others, but usually, they are very international.
Jan
