very very few - maybe Crete? Well not where you can sit on the beach but not warm enough to swim.

How do you define winter?
Last Nov. in southern Spain it was warm enough to sit on the beach at midday.
If you are prepared to go to the Red Sea, it's a lot hotter!

Iceland - they have outdoor swimming holes that are hot as Hades due to thermal water gushing out of the ground - perhaps the only place you can really swim al fresco in all of Europe in the winter (Dec-mid-Mar)!

Tenerife and the other Canary Islands maintain their temperatures in the mid 70's. I have also had temperatures in late 60.s and early 70's in southern Spain in January (but I may have been lucky). Also, try Madeira.

The Canary Islands Spanish territory, off the coast of Africa) are popular destinations for Europeans in Winter. I've been several times in January and it was hot & sunny in Gran Canaria; the weather is Tenerife is changeable and gets far more rain.

Europe is in the temperate zone, not the tropical one. There is no place that has beach/swimming weather in the middle of winter.

You can try the Canaries, or the Carib or SE Asia.

No place that has swinming weather? Tell that to the Swiss! On Dec. 15, 600 swimmers from around the world are expected to plunge into the frigid waters of Lake Geneva for the Christmas Swimming Cup, an annual event open to all competitors over age 13

And the guys and gals who traditionally jump off a bridge in Geneva on Jan 1st, into the freezing (often frozeen) river Rhone as it comes off the Lake Geneva...

But beach? No, they don't sit on the beach...

Winter is when Europeans go long haul for beach weather - and The Canary Islands & Egypt are the NEAREST places for beach weather

In a few years, most of Europe will have warm winters, eventually warm enough to spend on the beach. Of course, by then, the summers will be dangerously hot.

Well said AntonyGA, perhaps we should all sit it out until then, imagine the CO2 emissions saved - but then again I'm addicted to travel!

We used to go to the Canary Islands in the winter. The temps were OK, anyway far better than in cold and rainy Belgium but it was never hot. By 3.30-4 pm we really had to wear a sweater or a light coat. We then discovered the Red Sea (Egypt, Israel). Wow, what a difference! We haven't been back to the Canary Islands ever since.
