4- Chambord castle, there is no compare (in size) between it and other Loire chateaux

5- Neuschwanstein Castle, nicknamed Sleeping Beauty Castle because it was the model for it. I haven't been there but everybody knows which is the most visited castle in Europe^^

6- I was going to guess Buckingham Palace, but a palace is not a castle (I sure don't know the difference!), so I go with Windsor Castle.

Merry Christmas to you too, Pal.

Since when is Hampton Court a castle???>

It's not =that's why I said in Q palace - I would have put that in the title but originally wanted only castles but ran out of castle ideas by the last question!

Some say Neuschwanstein is a palace- many of the Loire chateaus are more like palaces than Hampton Court.

But yes you are right on.

All correct so far!

9. Prince Charles' London residence: is it Clarence House? It used to be St. James, I think.

Merry Christmas to you too, PalQ.

#3 is right from Treesa

#1 is not Versailles - is a palace but still I think not nearly as a behemoth as this castle in central Europe.

Some say Neuschwanstein is a palace..

Well, it is a palace. It cannot be a "castle" as it has no strategic features for defence. Just the looks of an old castle. It's indeed as much as a "castle" as the one in Disneyland.

Castles are fortifications (typically before 15th century), palaces are residences (without meaningful features for defence, typically after 15th century).
The "look" of the building is irrelevant, though, to distinguish a castle from a palace.

It's called Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disney- I agree N is a palace and I should have said palaces and castles in question.

N is still the most famous 'castle' to Americans when asked to say which castle they like and know.

#7 now right.

#2 remains but here it is - Prague Castle according to several sources.

Thanks for playing!

type Neuschwanstein into a Google search box and all that comes up is Neuschwanstein Castle- good or not it's called a castle.

Are the chateaus of the Loire castles - well they are called chateaus or castles not palaces which in effect most are in the strict use of the term. Chateau is a castle - chateau fort are fortified castles- Newuschwanstein is a castle but not a fortified one in the broad sense of the word.

Ask my daughter and she'll say the castle at DLP is a castle.
So Neuschwanstein qualifies ;-)

What does Galore mean ?
