ARRRGH

Some did it again ! it is ChateauX. Like drapeaux, chameaux, seaux etc.
Never a 's' after a 'au' or 'eau'. une eau, des eaux.

If not stick to castle. Rant from the frenchspeaker over.

Next lesson : ou.
Choux hiboux, cailloux, genoux, poux.
but matous, papous, etc.

No it is English I was writing not French -I said chateaus of not de la Loire - chateaus is the plural in English of chateau, which is of course a word in English - I know enough French to know that it is chateaux in French but we're speaking de English here!

Who are you to tell others how to write right their language!

Cheers!

Country with the most castles per quare km?

Czech Republic.

"chateaus is the plural in English of chateau"

Not according to my OED, which even has the word in italics, presumably meaning it is a foreign word, although used by English speakers.

Perhaps you meant American rather than English?

That should be "chateaus ARE ugly" and beauty yes is in de eye of the beholder.

pizza is both singular and plural- like deer and many collective nouns

you and yous - either are acceptable for more than one - are yous going to the store.

Too didactic for you(s)- ???

"That should be "chateaus ARE ugly""

No, it should not. The subject of the sentence is the word "chateaus", not multiple chateaux.

"Yous" is horrible slang. If you really want a plural use ya'll or you all.

The three chateaus ARE far apart -yes

The three chateaus is far apart - no

Substitute castles for chateaus - same thing.

That said online dictionaryjust checked says plural in English of chateau is cheateaux so scrap all that I've said and WoeinParis is right and others too.

As for 'you' and 'yous'- 'yous' is proper and not slang - not used much and 'you' can mean a plural - I just use it for fun- like chateaus.

English major in college - D-pour moi.
