Europe by Car

Has anyone used the online site Europe by Car to rent a car in Italy? If so, were there any problems?

Nope. I got the best rate from www.thrifty.com. Better than at Autoeurope.com.

If you call or go online to AutoEurope you will probably get a better price and a car in the best condition. I don't know what country you are in but if it's the UK or United States/Canada they have branches there. AutoEurope contracts with companies like Europe Car, Avis, etc. In there contract you have to get a newer car with very few miles on it. If you have a problem after you return home, you have the company local who will make sure the rental company doesn't try to get away with anything. We always rent from AutoEurope.

I'll second the above suggestions... I've used a variety of sources and sometimes you find that going directly to the car company (I've had good luck with National and Avis) or the consolidators (autoeurope, kemwel) will be the best. I tend to like Kemwel, because I can book early and if I ever find a better price, they'll match it. I've done this a few times.

That said, my last trip (Norway) I got by far the best rate by going thru my airline (Continental). The plane tickets were about $1200 total. When I looked for a rental car, the best I could do was between $800 and $1000. By using Continental Vacations to book both, they car worked about to be $360 ($1560 total with the plane tix).

Hunt around and then make a decision...

Hi CR,

I like www.kemwel.com. Like AE they will match any other price.

They are associated with autoeurope, but cheaper.
