Highly recommend Avis, despite the fact that many will suggest Auto Europe. We have never, ever had a problem with Avis, and you do not have to pay up front. Only when you pick up your car.

Hi K,

Sixt is a well regarded firm.

I've had good results with www.kemwel.com - an associate of AE, but less expensive.

Sixt is the largest rental car firm in Germany and one of the biggest in Europe. Very reliable and high quality cars. In my experience, much better than AVIS.

Kemwell and Auto Europe are not rental car firms, they are brokers.

>>you do not have to pay up front. Only when you pick up your car.<<

Just remember that if you pay for the car in Europe, you'll be paying an additional 1 to 4 % currency conversion fee if you have a USA credit card. If you pay in advance with AutoEurope/Kemwell/etc you won't be paying any exchange fees.
