I'm having trouble understanding not booking return flight being cost effective, but then I'll be the first to admit I don't know everything!

We have had extremely good luck booking apartments in Europe and the States through www.vrbo.com Everything we've gotten with them has been exactly as expected. We are also looking into, and impressed with, www.sabbatical.com We haven't had the chance to book with them yet, but plan to in the future. You can book 3-4 night stays with both these websites.

While I love Munich, I can't imagine staying there during Oktoberfest! The crowds will be horrendous. And everything will cost a lot more. I agree that if you just want to experience Oktoberfest, stay in Salzburg and day trip to Munich. Salzburg is wonderful and there are great day trips out of there as well.

St-Cirq was only trying to be helpful in case you did not do the math - most of the time two one ways are about twice as expensive as an open-jaw ticket.

Yours is the anomaly. She/he was just trying to be helpful - again don't be scared away by rudeness and keep asking questions!

I based in Garmisch once and took the about hour train ride into Octoberfest, which is right by a minor S-Bahn station that is a short walk from the Oktoberfest grounds.

I commuted once to Oktoberfest from Stuttgart and on the whole there were lots of Leiderhosen-clad guys with their insignas as to their groups on shirts and hats - fine going over but coming back the train was full of drunk and half-drunken younger folk, mainly guys and some vomiting!

I've been in Munich during Oktoberfest and I didn't think it was all that crowded. A lot depends on what part of town you are in.

Did you leave out a digit? Because $339 is EXTREMELY low!! But why the heck are you talking about one way tickets?

Open Jaw (called multi-city on many websites) will usually be about the same as R-T . . . or or sometimes a little less or a little more. But because of the convenience even if a little more expensive, open jaw is almost always worth it.

You may be $$$$$ ahead to cancel your one-way booking and re-book open jaw.

Seriously doubt that's the case. Sounds like the OP is using points or FF miles or doesn't understand how to use multicity booking.

There have been a lot of reported issues with airbnb in Italy (as in rip-off). Also, the rates seem to be listed for one person only. A fee is added for additional people.

I agree. The hotel prices are crazy but otherwise things aren't that different.
