Euro GTravel Quiz # 46 - Venues?
1- Well not a venue question but one annhig posed last of my quizzes and I said I'd put as the first question next time - What river divides Cornwall from the civilized word (England)?
2- Surf's Up in Munich - where are people finding fairly good surfing in Munich?
3- This city has a Titanic Museum in its 'burgeoning' Titanic Quarter?
4- What public space did the Nazis use in Berlin for their infamous Book Burnings - there is now a memorial there?
5- The Columbia Street Market in London is known for what?
6- What would you find in the Paradiso in Amsterdam besides a former church?
7- an ancient archaeological site in Greece is set near a canal the same name and is located on an isthmus the same name?
8- Cogels Osylei is a street full of impressive art-nouveau structures - what city is it in?
9- This famous spiffy thermal spa is a short day trip from Florence - right next to Lucca - what is its name.
10 - Where did Lucky Lindy Lindbergh land at on his first successful solo trans-Atlantic flight?
Good luck - grab the huge prize (plus S & H)!

Was there an Orly in 1927? Lindbergh landed at Le Bourget.
London's best known flower market is in Colombia Road
And I'd have thought the Tamar is best known for Brunel's railway bridge over it.

Le Bourget is still an airport - it only serves I believe private business planes or special flights in for say the Paris Air Show, staged here.
Le Bourget Airport has in it environs the Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace. Le Bourget is easily reached by train from Paris in a few minutes.

2. Since I am planning to visit Munich this summer, I read about a river in/near the English Garden that has some kind of standing wave. Not really an answer.
7. Corinth?
10. When the concorde crashed, it was trying to reach Le Bourget.

Yup surf's up in the Englischer Gardens, one of my favorite parks in Europe - I guess the hoards of nudist sunbathers right next to the walking paths (mainly fat ugly older men IME) are largely gone but the Chinese Pagoda and its great outdoor beer garden is tops.
Yes Corinth for # 7.
Thanks about Concorde - trying to get to the air show. did not make a good impression for sales I guess.

"If Lindy landed at Le Bourget and had to go through customs and TSA-type searches,"
Don't you people ever actually - you know - travel ?
It takes 00.0003 nanosends to get through any European Customs control (all that Yank Customs rudeness, queueing and pointless interrogation is just to create jobs).
And it's only America's more bizarrely dysfunctional airports that arriving passengers go through security.
If Lindbergh saw what a mess Americans have made of international travel since his death, he might have finally repented of his xenophobia.

Looks like cowboy gtake the prize this time (plus S&H) - a free walk in flanner's Cotswolds, from Lower Slaughter to Upper Slaughter - totally free (plus S&H) - not responsible for damage to cow gates or cows or cow attacks!

Nice of Percy, but I have to decline the job I'm afraid.
Two reasons - firstly I won't have much time and more importantly my knowledge of most things European is sadly lacking.
You Yanks are much more knowledgeable than me.

Yes Montecatini Terme, to me a wonderful place - no not a Lucca or famous hill town but for Italy a special type place - a campus-like setting sans mopeds or obnoxious traffic all around - the water tastes terrible but hey no good medicine is good because of its taste.
If tired from the rigors of sightseeing head for the waters at Montecatini Terme, a short train ride from Florence.

1. The Tamar, and it divides England from civilisation here in Cornwall. Flanner is right of course about the bridge, famously built by the wonderfully named Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
and sadly that was the only one i could answer. Where do you get this from, Pal?
BTW, have you seen the UK hit show "Pointless"? it would be right up your street!
