Because the oil is not for YOU, it's for THEM. (=The folks that run the USA). They don't care how much YOU pay.

Don't confuse "American interests" with the interests of the American people.

As far as the HUGE recovery of the U.S. Dollar; if the the price of oil recovers, no mo' dollar gain; and we all know if President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad farts; it will send oil futures instantly up!

<Florida is perfect for sugar cane growing....but is anybody pushing it or putting bills through Congress to help support such a move?>

If it is so perfect, why govt support? If it is so perfect, why aren't Florida farmers busy planting sugar cane and making a good profit?

Do we really need more of our tax money going to uneconomical schemes?

In the last week in July my son and DIL invited my wife and I to join them in Paris for a week beginning Monday. His trip is a short business trip with only three weeks lead time.

My wife can't but insisted I go, bless her heart.

I bought a single ticket, BOS to CDG return, for $1,448 and reserved 6 nights in the same hotel, 3 star, where they are staying for $1200.

We've been numerous times including June, 2007 but I happened to look at a trip in Feb. 2002 when we took 2 of our grandchildren for 5 nights. The total airfare for 3 adults and one minor was $1,565 and 2 rooms in a different 3 star hotel including breakfast was $860.

One person for 6 nights in August 2008 for $2,648, 5 nights for 4 in Feb 2002 was $2,425.

The Euro was 88 cents and the GBP was $1.45 at the time.

The US government will do anything to keep western Europe from getting easy acccess to Russian oil. Politics and "American interests".

Yep. It is all a grand conspiracy to deprive Western Europe access to oil. The US government is just trying to keep Europe down. Europe unite! Down with the Evil Empire!

Honestly, where do you come up with this stuff? Does Oliver Stone enjoy some outsized popularity in Germany that I was unaware of?

The Georgia conflict is about Russia wanting to re-exert control over its former sphere of influence, nothing more. And there is no credible evidence that the US is going to do anything about it. The likelihood of the US going to war with Russia over this, or doing anything more than make diplomatic noise, is about 0.0000000000000001%.

Russia couldn't care less about Georgia, they care about US weapons, instructors, missiles, tanks in their backyard. (In the name of "freedom&quot
And they are absolutely right about doing so.

Ahh... I see now. Russia is the aggrieved party here. Simply standing up for their "rights" and for "freedom". You are absolutely right. Georgia doesn't have anything to worry about from Russia. Don't know what would lead anyone to believe that Russia has extra-territorial ambitions.

Quick question: Do they teach history in Germany?

I try to put it simple esp. for you

- A country (=government) invading another country without being attacked.
- Putting their soldiers into harms way, for no reason. Killing civilians, raiding homes.
- Generating masses of displaced persons, fleeing to the middle east and Europe, but unwilling to accept at a few of them at home.
- Keeping prisoners without trial and without granting their basic civil rights.
- Leading organization (NATO) that promised not to expand east behond it's 1989 borders, and later didn't care about it.
- Using double standards, foreign aid and weapons at its borders are bad, when but they themselves couldn't care less when they do the same in another part of the planet.
- Producing and owning the most dreadful weapons, but complaining when others want those weapons too

- Talking about freedom, when all they care about is power.

If I were a Russian president, I would have no trust whatsoever in ANY promises of the US goverment.

That's quite obvious, isn't it?

Russia and Georgia have been antagonizing each other since the Republic of Georgia was established.

They would be doing so regardless of the role of the US, because they have their own long and involved history.

Perhaps Logos should look into this history.

America getting involved in a dispute between Russia and Georgia would be akin to Russia getting involved in a dispute between Tennessee and Kentucky.

I hope they keep their noses out.

America does not conquer countries and keep them. America does not want to expand. America wants everyone to have their freedom and prosper.

Japan attacked the USA and we fought back and we didn't keep Japan and make it another state. Now Japan is a big economic power.

Same with Germany - Germany lost the war and we didn't make it one of our states - we helped Germany get back to its former glory.

We rebuild and help - we don't take and keep. America wants out of Iraq as soon as Iraq can take care of its own security. Iraq has billions of dollars from oil now to help rebuild their country.

What is with some of you people - we lose our young men and women defending countries so they can have their freedom.

How old are you?

America has had "armed forces" in Germany and Japan since the end of the war - 1945 - 63 years.

America wants freedom around the world ? So how come he and his cronies have taken it away from U.S. Citizens?

Do you ever read anything on the internet besides American papers and media? America is not supposed to feed its people propaganda (read lies) - Cheney , Rumsfeld, and your friend in the WH changed all that - concerted efforts for disinformation and spoon feeding media "talking points".

I suggest you go read our Constitution and see what's left of it.

If you believe what you have typed in your last post, I have a nice bridge just off Manhattan to sell you.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention
our little war in Korea, where we have had troops since 1950. No, we dont make other countries states, we just occupy them till the end of time - as numbskull intends to do in Iraq.

And you know what we're doing in Iraq? Saddam reneged on his contracts with Exxon and Conoco and a few other oil companies. We aint fighting for anybody's freedom kiddo, our kids are fighting for corporations and WH buddies: Halliburton,
Blackwater (biggest contributor to the moron) and kickbacks. Who do you think owns the stocks in those companies? Who do you think has raided the treasury so that this country is on its ear? And who do you think is paying for the corporations making the United States army their private army? American citizens who over 80 percent are opposed to the war and wanted the jackasses in the WH impeached . Wake up. Start reading news on the internet from other countries -find out what's going on in the world.

It;s not "America, love it or leave it" - " A true patriot speaks out against an oppressive and miscreant government because he does love his country."

America wants everyone to have their freedom and prosper.

That line certainly made me chuckle.

99.99999 percent of the time I disagree with everything and anything Logos posts.

Unfortunately for America, and it is our shame, for once he has posted the truth.

You'll find my other posts are true, too. You just have to wait a little longer, before that becomes obvious to everyone

Longboat,

this is the way it works.
Big Agriculture and the corn lobby is making a fortune off of using corn for gasoline. They ARE subsidized by YOU and me and every other American. Agriculture is SUBSIDIZED by tax payer dollars.

Do you think the corn lobby and Big Agriculture lobby wants to give up the fortune they're raking in by using the corn for fuel? So the 624 lobbiests (literally that is the number) to every Congressman and Senator are out there in every Congressman's and Senator's office telling them if they dont kill the idea of copying Brazil and using sugar cane for fuel and more energy than corn produces, there will be no contributions to their pacs or re-election.

That's how it works and why you are hearing nothing about using sugar cane instead of corn.

Dont go overboard Logos, None of your other posts have had much in them except arrogance and a lot of Anti-American blather.
