Oh what joy! Here we are paying $1.40 for a measly euro. How lame is that! Good thing I bought quite a few euro when it was at $1.27. Ok, so we have seen the euro when it was as high as 1.60 and then it dropped quite a bit and then rose again. $140 is pretty damn lousy. Well dearies, let's hope that this overvalued currency, the euro, will drop yet another time. If you happen to be in Eurolandia and the rate is about 1.20ish, buy some extra euro if you can afford it. It aint ever gonna get much lower than that and wont stay that low for long either ! Urrrggg!

I'll go no matter how expensive it is. I just won't stay as long. Or maybe I'll go to South America.

I'm with you, Peg. I keep looking at Peru. I understand that they accept the US Dollar as currency in most hotels, restaurants, etc...

I have a 8 day a trip planned but luckily I prepaid for my lodging and have enough euros(and I love to add the 's by the way) to last me the 8 days that I will be there.
South America is nice and looking better and better, especially Argentina.

I don't think the euro is high - I think that the US dollar is sinking.

Now I must say, the Aussies( Is that ok to say? I do not want to offend anyone) do make the best out of their low exchange rate. They have traveled to England when the rate was pitiful and still spent a lot of time and money. God bless Australia!
The only problem about visiting the USA is that we have all those taxes and tips to pay. Canada is even worse and the portion sizes in Canada are a lot smaller and you don't get free refills on your sodas. I am sorry but I am fuming over the drop in the dollar! Yeah, I'll get over it but I am not there yet!

Yes usually we are on the receiving end of crappy exchange rates. I just wish I was in a position to actually travel right now when they are swinging in our favour. Doh! Though I did go to the US in March and was pretty happy even then with the rate, so I can't complain really.

Best travel deal for American's - Mexico! Right next door, great weather, maybe the worlds best food, Mayan sites and super cheap: 1 US Dollar = 12.5 pesos! Oaxaca and Playa del Carmen here we come.

It is the dollar that is falling not the euro that is rising.

The exchange rate never stops me visiting the US when the euro is low against the dollar. I don't whinge about it.

That really was the worst time in 2008 when I was in Ireland which was so outrageously expensive. Beautiful country and lovely people but boy do you pay an arm and a leg for food and beverages. France seemed cheap by comparison.

It's the dollar dropping more than the Euro rising right now. I'm no currency expert, but it seems like we'll see more of the same in the future--unless one of the Euro currency members defaults and has to withdraw from the Euro (not out of the question), or we have some kind of global banking catastrophe which puts everyone in flux (keep an eye on the US mortgage document mess--if it doesn't get straightened out soon, we could see another world wide banking crisis).

I was referring to the OP's comment about it being €11.27. We travel a lot in my family and keep our eye on the exchange rate as a result. We'd been commenting on how low it had gotten and were hoping it would stay that way. C'est la vie.

In any event, it was a joke, and doesn't really matter much anyway because we're going to Europe come hell or high water!

I remember when it was 10 francs to the dollar. I bought my first and only pair of Gucci shoes in Paris.

Two years ago when we were in Italy the euro was about a $1.40 maybe even a bit higher.

I bought some last summer at 1.19. It was great!
