Ethnic Restaurants in Dordogne?

Hi all, could someone please tell me if there are good restaurants in Dordogne that serve something other than the Dordogne specialties? I am looking forward to all the foie gras and duck but although my husband will eat these things they are far from his favorite. We will be in the area for 2 weeks and I don't want to torture him. Are there any good Italian or other ethnic restaurants that someone can recommend?

Hi t,

Isn't French as ethnic as Italian?

From my limited experience in the Dordogne, I'm certain that you can find fried chicken, steak, fish of various sorts, and pizza.

Enjoy your visit

There is a wide range of food available, ranging from sandwiches and pizzas upwards. It isn't all duck and foie gras.
Great pork, tasty chicken, wonderful beef. Fish too. Even McD if you have to.

There's a McD on the road into Sarlat.

Ethnic enough for you?

Well, I live here, and I have to say that there is a LOT of duck and goose. We are often on the lookout for something different too.

I don't know of a good Italian restaurant around Sarlat. Lots of pizza places, some good. In Sarlat there is a very good (tiny) Vietnamese restaurant, Pomme Tao.

You may also find North African, depending where you are.

I see that you have commented on the earlier post about restaurants in the Dordogne. A number mentioned on that list have things other than duck and goose. Bistro de L'Octroi in Sarlat, Jardin d'Epicure in St Cyprien, Le St Martial in St Martial de Nabirat.

In Périgueux there are a couple Chinese/Vietnamese places located in the historic town center, on or right off the rue Limogeanne.

Thank you so much for your replies. We will be in Sarlat for most of our stay so thank you Carlux for the restaurants you recommended - the French and Vietnamese. Pizza sounds like a good alternative one day. Do you have any specific recommendations for good pizza or North African cuisine?

Auberge de La Salvetat at Cadouin, Dordogne has a wide choice on their menu.

There is no lack of ethnic restaurants. However, the Asian ones are generally somewhat timid with their spices since they have to adapt to local tastes more than in the big cities.

Italian restaurants and pizzerias are considered about as exotic in France as in the U.S. --> they are considered to be local cuisine and most people wouldn't even think to suggest an Italian place as being "ethnic."
