England - Portsmouth
If we take the overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Caen, what is there to do in Portsmouth after dinner?
Also, can we leave our luggage at the ferry termnal when we arrive from London on the train?

Based on my previous visits, not a lot except going to the pub. The Still & West is quite nice - right on the harbour, with a vew of the ferries going in & out. It does food both in the bar & in an upstairs restaurant - good fish & chips !

There is a place called (I think) Gun Wharf which has lots of restaurants and a few bars in it – it’s near the ferry pier. The restaurants are mainly chain places and would be fine for kids. You could eat later and make an evening of it.
In my (limited) experience most portsmouth pubs aren't suitable for adults never mind kids!

The Still and West is quite a pleasant pub, although not sure about the beer since Gales Breery was closed down. (Although the Custardmonster is quite correct on his general summing up of Portsmouth pubs in general). It depends on time of year as well. Children would be welcome in restaurant and in the seating area outside, but might mot be in the bar itself.
If summer, the walk along the seafront from the Point along past Southsea common is very pleasant. If you are going to Caen as a D-Day related visit, there is a planned walk with plaques along the seafront showing details of the departure for the landing areas.
Gun Wharf Quay is, as David said, full of shops , bars and restaurants, and you can climb the Spinnaker tower for a view over the town and sea.
During the day the Royal Naval museum is welkl worth a vist as it Includes HMS Victory (Nelson's Flagship at Trafalgar). I have also heard good things about the D Day Museum.
I am in Portsmouth quite regularly, and have many contacts who live there, so if there is anything elkse you need to know, then please ask.

Another vote for Gunwharf Quays for eating / drinking / outlet shopping. There's also a 16-screen cinema and bowling alley. The Spinnaker Tower has amazing views over the historic harbour area (and up to 35 miles away as well).
