Eiffel Tower pre-purchase tickets

Is it best to pre-purchase my tickets to go by lift up the Eiffel tower in January?

Are the queues very long this time of the year?
We are a group of 4 and would like to go to the highest point of the tower by lift.

Best websites to purchase tickets in advance?

Thanks

The Eiffel Tower web site.

I would not prepurchse in January as the visibility will be very bad if it's raining.

I'd always use a venue's own website, if they sell them, unless you got some discount elsewhere, which I doubt would happen for that. I think I've seen tickets on Viator for about $50 (not a tour) and the Eiffel Tower sells them for 15 euro.

It is true weather can be bad in the winter, of course, and you may not even be able to go to the summit due to that. But tickets do sell out for good times, I just looked and they already are for certain times midweek in early December, and that's no popular time to visit. I'd wait and see how it looks for your dates online, if things are getting booked up around the time you want, and you are willing to risk that fee (I would for only 15 euro) to get what you want, I'd then book. I don't think you can even book for January now, only Dec.

Do not prepurchase tickets for January. The lines at that time are minimal and the wait time very manageable. What will you do with your prepurchased tickets if it is raining?

I'd say I can only base it on my personal experience. My first visit to Europe was to Paris during the last of February some years ago. On the day we arrived, it was drizzling rain, but we decided to continue to the Eiffel Tower as planned. So glad we did as it turned out to be an amazing experience. Although it was a miserable cold drizzle at ground level, the entire packed elevator of people gasped in wonder as they exited at the top. That drizzle was transformed into gorgeous, lazy snowflake fairies dancing in the lights at the top. One of the most beautiful experiences in all my years of travel. Had we not pre-purchased, we would never have experienced this wonder.
