Eidfjord Norway Advice
DH and I will take our first ocean cruise this summer on the Viking Sky--yes that Viking ship! We are seasoned travelers and usually book and plan everything independently. We have decided what excursions (or none at all) we would like to include in most ports but are looking for advice on Eidfjord. Options such as kayaking or rafting are out for us, there is a pricey bus and train trip to Flam but is it too much time on bus and train?, the Viking Village of Gudvangen (also pricey) or the included morning excursion to the Norwegian Nature Center. The port of Eidfjord looks very small if we were to tour on our own on foot would there be much to see? Might this be a day to take the morning nature tour, a stroll through town and enjoy afternoon tea on the ship?
I did not find Eidfjord on Cruise Critic's list of ports and am hoping someone familiar with this area of Norway can provide some information. Thanks for any insights you might provide.

That Nature Center is really cute, and the bonus is the drive across Hardangervidda. Eidfjord is very small, but it's got a museum devoted to the Hardanger violin. There's also a gallery devoted to the painter Bergslien. You might also have something created for you from wood at Trebua woodshop, or buy one of their beautiful birch boxes.

You see the scenery along the way, not in villages, so the more time you spend on buses and trains the better. In a small town like Eidfjord it's likely that all resources are booked by the cruise so diy may not be possible. The main attraction in Eidfjord will be the cruise in and out of the fjord - free! Otherwise the attraction near the town is the waterfall Vøringsfossen - https://en.hardangerfjord.com/eidfjord/
