Edinburgh from train to plane ...time allowance?

We will be arriving at Haymarket Station about 11:15 am from Inverness-Edinburgh route, and I'm looking at a 1:45 pm flight to LHR. I think we should be able to make the flight in plenty of time as the Edinburgh Airport website suggests arriving one hour ahead of scheduled departure for U.K. flights. I'm guessing it's about 30 minutes from the train station to airport via the airport bus. Just want to make sure I'm allowing enough time.

You should be OK, Should easily make the airport by midday, and can get away with checking in at 1pm so you have a decent buffer. The airport bus goes from right outside the station.

You would have done better taking the sleeper train from Inverness to London. Not only would it be cheaper but it gets you to London several hours before any other method

And whilst there should be plenty of time to make the connection, it doesn't allow for things going wrong between Inverness & Edinburgh or Edinburgh & LHR.

You could have also taken a flight from Inverness to Gatwick & a coach to LHR

BTW I can't see a 1:45pm flight to LHR from Edinburgh in the current timetable. When are you travelling?

Just to add, I see that Inverness to Gatwick can be a codeshare with BA, so it could be combined into one ticket with your flight home if it's with BA or one of it's partners

I should've clarified our travel plans in my original post. We will be traveling from Kyle of Lochalsh to either Kingussie, Blair Atholl or Pitlochry and spending a night or two there as they offer the best connection to Edinburgh other than Glasgow where we've been on several occasions. We need to be at LHR on the morning of the 20th to meet friends. We will not be flying out on that date but not going onto London either.

BA has a flight listed for Sept. 19th from EDI to LHR at 13:45 and one at 15:55. I really dislike the idea of spending an additional 3+ hours at the airport for the later flight. We could come into Edinburgh a day earlier but again would prefer to stay further afield. Still the possibility of missing the flight is my biggest concern.

Is there still construction along Princes Street? I thought that might make a difference in travel time to/from the airport and why I chose Haymarket. Does Haymarket or Waverley offer baggage storage? That might be an option.

There is a left luggage service at Edinburgh Waverley station:

Sorry did't read your post properly. Haymarket has had disruption outside, but might be finished now, Princes Street looked OK last week. Will be in Edinburgh on Sunday and can ask folks...Website for the bus http://www.flybybus.com/...you could email them and ask.

The area round Haymarket is still a mess, but Princes Street is currently clear - but what either will be like in 10 months time I doubt if anyone has a clue.

Why don't you drop your luggage at Waverley, spend some time in Edinburgh and take the late (20:25) flight to Heathrow. It would be a better option than spending an afternoon and evening stuck in a grotty airport hotel.

If your friends don't land at the crack of dawn you could still take the sleeper train from Edinburgh and be at LHR to greet them and have a proper evening in Edinburgh to boot.

Just note - at this far in advance flight schedules are still somewhat flexible and may change.
