Eating in Travemünde
I will soon be using the Travemünde-Trelleborg ferry leaving at 22:00.
Could anyone advise where I can have dinner within or at reasonable distance from Travemünde ferry terminal without having to enter a major town? And what sort of restaurant(s) is (are) available?
I like a lot of different types of food but have a preference for typical food.

tgnych,
Travemünde actually is a part of Lübeck, although it appears to be an independent town of itself.
There obviously are more options in Lübeck than there are in Travemünde itself.
In Lübeck , I like Zimmermann's Lübecker Hanse located in the Old Town at Kolk No.3-7, Tel. +49- 451- 78054. They feature classic regional and French cuisine in a bit of old fashioned ambiance.
Schiffergesellschaft located on Breite Strasse No.2, also in Old Town, Tel. +49- 451- 76770 would be another option for local cuisine. It is a classic and a bit touristy, but not bad. Very nice interiors with ship models hanging on walls and ceilings.
In Travemünde proper, you might try the restaurants at the Casino Vier Jahreszeiten Hotel , although I haven't eaten there and after extensive renovations they just went beancrupt. However, a new investor has taken over and they should be operative. The property looks pretty nice from outside. It is located on Kaiserallee No.2 right on the beach (and behind the ugly Maritim-Hotel skyscraper that's visible for miles). I think they have a restaurant specializing on seafood called Fischmarkt and an Italian style place by the name of Il Giardino .
Alternatively, in Niendorf , a few miles up the coast, there is a small fishing and yacht harbor. Right opposite, there is a fish restaurant called Fischkiste on Strandstr. 56 that gets quite a lot of traffic. The ambiance is not that special and side dishes aren't much to write home about either, but the fish is fresh.
Finally in a small village called Schürsdorf some 18 km and about 25 min. away from Travemünde (inland off the town of Scharbeutz), there is Brechtmann's Restaurant . They specialize on roast ducks but also feature other local dishes. Their address is Hackendohrredder No.9, Tel. +49- 4524- 9952.
Hope these help and enjoy your trip

The ferry terminal is at Skandinavienkai which is not in the town of Travemünde. It is alongside the main road from Lübeck to Travemünde and also has its own railway station on the line to Travemünde. The harbourside in Travemünde is lined with restaurants - it is a holiday resort and lots offer fish.

Geoff,
you are right about the Skandinavienkai- Terminal being slightly out of town, but it is just about a mere 2.5 km into the town of Travemünde. There indeed is a separate train stop, but I believe this is not of importance for tgnych as they obviously will be driving themselves.
The harbourside restaurants in Travemünde are manifold, too, but IMHO most of them are pretty mediocre, which is why I suggested the ones above (and two of my suggestions indeed are in Travemünde and overlooking its beach and the entrance to the port).
Just to add: Lübeck's famous Café Niederegger (specialists of Marzipan) have an outlet by the harbour in Travemünde . Their coffee and cakes are far from mediocre! One might also want to consider to take a few bars of their marzipan sweets along on a trip.

One follow- up:
It is currently pretty much off-season on the Baltic Coast.
I seem to recall that Fischkiste in Niendorf is closed most of the time during this time of year, opening only on weekends.
Chances are that they will be closed, so you might want to treat this recommendation a bit carefully.
On the other hand, this probably was the most bland one of my recommendations anyway.
If you want to check ahead their phone number is +49- 4503- 31543.
While posting this info, I also checked Brechtmann and according to their webpage they are closed through March 1st. Hope this doesn't cause any inconvenience. Would not have expected this as usually quite a number of people from Hamburg drive up to Schürsdorf for their ducks.
