hi panecott,
oops - yes, it's 20kg, not 20lbs! sorry.
with easyjet, it's not the weight of your hand luggge but its shape that counts. they have a little cart by check-in that you're supposed to use to check that your carry-on is not too big. I'm sure that somewhere on their web-site they will give you max dimensions.
there's always someone by teh check-in desk trying to sort out problems like this so i strongly suggest that you make sure that your cary-on wil comply.
regards, ann

Like annhig said, the weight of your carry-on does not matter, but the size does. On our last trip we were asked to show that our bags could fit in the little cart. We had measured and knew they were right at the measurements and they did fit. They don't mind if you have to squish it in there as long as it fits (don't forget the wheels if your carry-on has them). That was the first time we'd been asked to show they would fit.
We also can confirm that they allow pooling of weight for your checked bags. One was slightly over the limit and I offered to move a few things to our 2nd bag but they said it was fine since our 2nd one was underweight.
As others have said, speedy boarding seems a rip-off, especially since sometimes you end up boarding a shuttle anyway to get to the plane. We've never used speedy boarding, just made sure we checked in early.

Thanks, Ann. The dimensions were posted on the site Lucie posted - in centimeters, however.
But I think they were fairly reasonable. I'll only have a nylon bag, like a sportsac, so it should be okay. My purse can be thrown inside it, so it's really just one piece.

stw-7, and anyone else,
So will 2 hours be enough time? I'm driving up from Lecce that morning, which is 85 mi. from Bari. I figure if I leave by 5:30-6:00, it should be enough time to get there by 8-8:30 to drop off the car. The flight leaves at 10:45 a.m.
I have found that after about 15 minutes getting my sea-legs on the Autostrada, I drive just like the Italians.
And I'm assuming that there won't be much traffic at that hour.
BTW, is anyone familiar with the Bari Airport -- like where the car rental place is in relation to the departure terminal?

2 hours before check in should be fine. In fact, they usually don't open up the desk until 2 hours before. They are very strict about closing check in 40 minutes (or sometimes more - check your reservation sheet) before scheduled departure time. We're always there about 2 hours before so that we can get in group A for getting on the plane, but we have friends who have missed it. They arrived 2 minutes past the closing time and they refused to let them check in.

I thought EasyJet was much better than RyanAir. Like one of the earlier Posters, I flew from London (Luton) to Spain. I travel light, so there was no charge for 1-checked bag (20kg = 44 pounds); and they didn't weigh my carry-on.
It's prudent to check in early. They give you a numbered boarding pass and that's the order in which you are boarded.
BTW
EasyJet is a Swiss owned and operated Company
