The ride is about a half hour from airport. But then you have a 5-10 minute walk from the place where the airport train stops to the main terminal. Although technicaly in the same building, they are a long way apart. Also, it is very easy to get lost when you get off the airport train because there are no clear signs pointing to the main station; don't take the steps down but contine to the right around the building corner along the tracks all the way. You'll see what I mean.

The airport train takes 32 minutes, non-stop. Allow another 10-15 minutes to reach the check-in station. Consider the possibility that the train might be running late (as much as 30 miutes).
A taxi early in the morning can get you to the airport in 25 minutes.

Our family of 4 flew out of Rome yesterday. We stayed at the center, and took a taxi to FCO (fixed rate of 35E from near Piazza Novona - about a 30-40 min ride during morning office hours). Our hotel arranged for the taxi. The train ticket is at 9.5E and it takes 20 mins. But if you figre that you would have to transfer to your hotel after reaching the center with your luggage, taxi works well. I would suggest you call your hotel before hand to see if they have a recommendation.
