Now Sam, there you go again!

This is how Bush spent March, while the Middle-East spiraled out of control:

March 1. The President spoke to students at Lakewood Elementary School in North Little Rock, Ark.

March 2. Bush issued a proclamation for "National Poison Prevention Week," and met with the President of El Salvador.

March 4. He christened the USS Ronald Reagan.

March 5. Bush met with the University of Oklahoma football and softball teams. He made a call to the hospitalized Vice President Dick Cheney to wish him well, and signed a proclamation for "Save Your Vision Week."

March 6. Bush announced that he is going to Sweden in June for the U.S.-European Union Summit. He posed for a photo op with Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.

March 8. Bush spoke at North Dakota State University, and released his tax plan to help low income families.

March 12. The President visited a youth center in Panama City, Fla., and spoke to the rotary club.

March 14. Bush gave a speech to the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, and tours a youth center at the Grace Episcopal Church in Plainfield.

March 15. The President met with World Boxing Association heavyweight champ Johnny Ruiz, and with "PTA Teacher of the Year," Katha Black.

March 16. Dubya celebrated St. Patrick's Day with Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern, and proclaimed "National Girl Scout Week."

March 19. Bush discussed the budget in Billings, Mont., and tackled the economy at Western Michigan University.

March 29. The President spoke at the Radio-TV Correspondents Dinner.

March 30. He met with members of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The President, on announcing Powell's plans, said this could be a hopeful moment for the Middle East.
"But it calls for leadership, not for terror," he said.

Bush has shown zilch leadership when it comes to the Middle East and has squandered any progress that President Clinton had made to achieve peace in the region.

But Ozzy's coming to dinner!!!!!

Who's in charge,

Nothing is spiralling out of control Dude!

The Israeli's are doing exactly what we want them to do...eliminate or arrest a huge number of mind numbed Palestinean terrorists. They got six Hesballah just yesterday. Let them go in, clean up the bad guys and leave the place a bit better.

Only sad part is they should have arrested Palestinean terrorist numero uno..Arrafat while they had him. Now he'll weasle around, make agreements and break them while 15 year old girls blow themselves up so their family gets $$$ from Saddam.

Sad situation, but it isn't Bush's fault!

Uncle Sam

U2 is from the South too-- (the good south --the ROI) and they do NOT want to be American.

Sam--even a right wing nut like Pat Buchanan has a much more even-handed view of the middle east conflict as it applies to Isreal and the Palestinians. You are brainwashed by the one-sided media> Poor boy!

Then, Jack, why so many references to America in album titles, song titles? I love old U2 and have been a long-time fan but I don't think they compare as one of the BEST RnR bands.

REM might be a weenie band now, but from the Green album backwards they rocked. At times they've been referred to as the last great rock n roll band in America (according to Rolling Stone magazine). These titles have also been conferred on bands like the Pixies, Husker Du, and the Replacements but I've never seen it applied to U2.

And, no, BeatChick doesn't get pissed off by someone else's opinion, rationally stated or otherwise.

And this is only MVHO. Let the discussion rave on...

Well Beat chick--you can admire a country and their people w/o wanting to actually be them. A more cynical view might be that they know e are their biggest market! I think better of them though.

And REM is a great band. Yes, Rocker the 70s bands listed you listed are great ==but that doesnt make REM and Us less great. STP is great too!

Jack, you're right, but I always wished U2 would focus more on their own country and be more of the "Irish" band that I loved in the beginning. They won't even play "Sunday Bloody Sunday" anymore in concert because they think Americans wouldn't be able to relate to Irish history/politics, i.e. that we wouldn't understand about the 1916 Easter Uprising. Oh well.

Beatchick,

Yes they do play "Sunday Bloody Sunday" at their concerts. I saw them live in October and I have the DVD for their Boston concert and they do.

And...when they played "Walk On" and when the 9/11 names came up on the screen it was...an emotional moment!

Brought mist to Uncle Sam's eyes!!!

Ooooohhhhh, the 50's a kinder, gentler time?? Jim Crow Laws, no birth control, only go to college if you were rich, women in the kitchen in skirts, black people on TV playing maids or gas station employees, no gay rights, anti-semitism, if you are unmarried and pregnant just go to the Home for Unwed Mothers and let them rip your baby out of your arms and give it away, if your husband beats you just keep your mouth shut, if you are molested by a priest just keep your mouth shut, don't have an opinion just keep your mouth shut. Yes, the 50's were a great time if you were a white Anglo-Saxon Protestant straight male who stayed on top by keeping everybody else down. Duh.

Gee U.S., guess I haven't paying as much to U2 lately as I should. 10 years they stated in an interview that they would never play "Sunday..." ever again for the reasons I stated.

My opinion of them is picking up.

But has Bono gotten rid of the dreadful "Lou Reed" specs yet?

Tee hee hee..."modern-day John Lennon". Bono can certainly be pretensious, can't he?!?

I just recall that when I heard "Exit" from the Joshua Tree that it reminded me of the VU's "Heroin" (and I knew they were HUGE VU fans like REM), so naturally when I saw the specs Lou Reed immediately sprang to mind. : )
