The wonderment of visiting famous tourist cities was fading, and I thought it might be different to visit Dubrovnik old town, as there are very few intact medieval walled cities remaining. Visually it was all I expected with narrow lanes and dramatic fortifications, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it was still a living city with washing strewn across the narrow lanes and the locals scurrying in and out of their houses. During the day, it was packed full of tourists like me, but then in the early morning and evening most visitors vanished, and a peaceful ambience descended on the town. My daughter and I spent a week this past September in Dubrovnik..

Our lodging was just outsite the gate of the Old Town..We couldn't have found a better location.

We really enjoyed our staying, the balcony facing the port was just super.

Dubrovnik is without doubt the Pearl of the Adriatic..is truly a beautiful city.

I wish that someday I would be able to go back..

Hello there...The best place to start is by taking a stroll along the top of Dubrovnik's old town walls, which stretch for over a mile. Enter through the Pile Gate, across a 15th-century bridge, and pay 50 kuna to clamber up some steep steps to the

I describe the Adriatic coast of Croatia as Heaven on Earth. And after Paris, I'd have to say that Dubrovnik is my favorite city. I agree that the fact that it's an actual living city makes it even better. We loved walking the wall and seeing clothes hanging on the line, children playing and people just going about their lives. I imagine those houses have been passed down through many generations.

I can sit at an outdoor cafe on the Stradun for hours absorbing and watching.
