Dublin to Dingle Bay

How long is the drive from Dublin to Dingle Bay and from there to Shannon Airport? Is there any nice place to see on the way?
Thanks,

I imagine Dublin to Dingle would be like 6-7 hours of driving. If you want to stop halfway, it's an easy drive from Dublin to Cashel, which took us 2.5 hours (we stayed overnight.) The Rock of Cashel and Cahir Castle are worthy sights.

michelin puts it at 4.5. Using my formula for averaging 35 MPH, it makes it about 6 which I think is much more realistic. It could take as much as 7 depending on traffic.

Figure about 3 hours back to Shannon. It could be a bit longer maybe a bit shorter. From Dingle to Shannon, it is LONGER to take the ferry despite what some of the locals will tell you. One person told me it took 85 miles off the trip. Well, the trip is only 108 miles, so that seems tough. If you are not in a hurry though, you could take the ferry and see something different than you saw coming from Dublin.

I don't know the road from Dublin to Limerick that well, only haven driven it once and that was on my 1st trip in the dark. The National Stud Farm is near Kildare. You could take a side trip and cruise along a bit of Lough Derg at Nenagh. Adare is a cute to some, overly cute to others town with a pretty row of thatched houses down the main street. It's worth a stop.

Depending on the direction that you take as you come in to Dingle, you could go over Conor Pass by taking the road along the northern coast of the peninsula which takes you through (or near actually) Castlegregory and then over the pass.

If you head back via the ferry and you have lots of time on your hands, there is a world of things you could see in Co. Clare including a ride down to Loop Head, the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, Bunratty Castle and Folk Park near Shannon, Craggaunowen ... and the list goes on.

When will you be traveling?

Bill
