I haven't stayed at the Alexander but I have stayed at the Merrion. I thought it was a beautiful hotel with excellent service, frendly staff. It seemed like there were more business travelers than tourists and the people staying there were all well dressed. Let me know if you have any other questions about the Merrion.

Hi,
I would choose the Merrion over the Alexander. The level of service in the Alexander leaves a lot to be desired - in terms of location, there is very little difference between the hotels but the Merrion has a much better reputation. Hope you have a nice stay in Dublin!

I haven't stayed at either, only a B&B in Dublin, but would like to throw out there that, if you're into Irish music and dancing, they have it live nitely in the lower level of the Arlington Hotel. At least they did two years ago when I was there. It was an absolute blast.

Depends on what you want to pay. The Merrion is by far the superior place. Its a five star hotel with a Michelin star restaurant. The Alexander is a very nice hotel but no where in the league of the Merrion. Are you getting some sort of deal? As for location they are 2 blocks from each other and both are very central.

Choose The Merrion - it is wonder location & a beautiful hotel, worth the extra money.
I was taken by my partner for my birthday in February & being escourted to the room by staff they asked was it business or pleasure, I replied a birthday treat & less than 30 minutes later staff were at my room with a platter of fresh berries with cream & hand made chocolates ......... a superb gift - I've forsaken the Four Seasons over it !
