Driving through southern Germany, would you book accomodation in advance?
Following on from a different topic I have... We are driving through small towns along Mosel Rhine route and RR towns and would like to 'take it as it comes' and wondering if we need to book the accommodation in advance. Is it likely we will find B&B's pensiones, hotels etc along the way? We have 8 days and will start in Cologne and end in Munich (yes, different for those who saw my last topic, the more research, the more changes). I'm thinking we might start driving and decide to take another route depending on what we see, we might like to stay longer in one area.... Dates from 28th August through to 5th September. Thanks

Although we hit Würzburg, Bamberg and Leipzig on big weekends for all last spring, the tourist office was able to find us accommodations, sometimes 10 to 15km. out of town, but that was not a problem for us. It's only in major cities like Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich that I would book a room in advance simply because of the logistics of driving in a big unknown city, finding parking close to the tourist office or whatever accommodations struck your fancy while reading guidebooks, and if the tourist office, driving out to the chosen accommodation.

We booked as we went along the Rhine and Mosel, in the same time period as you. This little place as an especially loved gem.
