Germany trip - booking hotels in advance?

Hi,

What do you all recommend when traveling from Munich to Frankfurt, should I book hotels/B&Bs before traveling?

thx.

Hi Danielm,
In order to help you we will need to know your travel dates and whether you need to book in Frankfurt and Munich or just in the smaller towns between. What kind of a budget do you have? Do you have a car or are you taking the train. A little more info please.

I'll be traveling by car from Aug 21st and don't need to book a hotel in Munich and only one night in Frankfurt at the end of the trip (night of Aug 27th).

My budget is roughly 100-150EUR per night (don't mind one night for a little more, around ~200, but trying to stay within limit).

Hi Danielm,

It is possible to travel without reservations. We have gone many times without advance reservations and have never had a bad experience. What we do is, as soon as we decide to pull in for the night we go to the local tourist kiosk and ask about accomodations in the town and give them our price range. They will give you a list of choices and make the calls for you. We have stayed in some charming places we would have never found on websites prior to leaving the states. We have also met many interesting fellow travellers.
My husband was amazed the first time we travelled this way ,but is now a firm believer.

It is matter of personal travel style, IMO.

We rely on public transport and always book in advance. We do not want to spend time finding accommodations on arrival and we choose the neighborhoods we prefer.

Different strokes...

Like kbob, we have never bothered to book in advance, in several trips to Germany, except for our first night (from the airport) and our last night (to the airport).

The towns and cities in Germany are well organized usually with tourist information kiosks on the major highways into a city, and in town center across from the train station (as a general rule). Just drop in and ask about loding -- this approach has never failed us.

Or, even better, ask about lodging.
