Oh I love it I love it!! Born and bred New Englander here, and rotaries are incredibly efficient...we just loved finding them in the UK and France, because if you're not sure exactly where to exit, you can drive around again without having to either a) make a sharp left or right and scaring the beegeezuss out of the guy behind you or b) driving 25 miles out of your way before you can turn around. And that reverse thing! hooyaah! We had a Kid (with a Wrangler interior, no lie) in France, and that was the little trick poor Neta had to figure out. As for unusual...the cars we rented in Greece had CHOKES. That's right, all you young sprouts, a real live pull the knob out of the dashboard CHOKE! My sister and I were the only two that knew what in the heck it was...

Hah Hah!! Cheryl and Dayle, you've made my day. I also had the pleasure of renting the Twingo (best car name ever) in Amboise, France and also could not find the reverse gear. I kept pushing the stick down to go into reverse since that is how the US manual stick cars I had driven worked, but still no reverse. Convinced I had a faulty car, I drove back to the agency to be enlightened that to get in reverse you had to pull the stick up. I felt like a total moron, but at least I could go in reverse. The Twingo was a pleasure to drive from then on, it's a great little car.

I drove in the US last year and kept seeing the words "XING PED" painted on the road. It took me a couple of days to figure out what this was all about - the first time I wondered if it was some Chinese guy writing his name on the road! If it had been painted "PED XING" I might have got it - in the UK words painted on the road appear as if in a normal paragraph, not in the order you drive over them....

By the way, driving in rush hour LA is much, much easier after driving in rush hour London...
