Driving maps for Provence - where to buy?

I have read that one should wait till they get to Europe to buy their road maps because they are half the price than here in the US. I'm off to France on Wednesday and haven't bought my Michelin Provence map. Is there a store in Paris (will be in Paris 3 days before heading south) where I could buy a map? I'll be in the 6th arr. Thanks!

I recommend Map # 113 in the Green series, aka Montpellier / Montélimar / Avignon / Marseille. 1/160000 and only about $ 5 indeed.

You can probably easily buy one at the airport when you land, there should be shops there selling maps and books, etc. If not, one French bookstore that has a very good travel dept. is Gibert Jeune--their branch at the corner of bd St-Michel and rue de l'Ecole de Medicines is where their travel section is. News kiosques might even have those. The FNAC store at the corner of rue de Rennes and rue Desgoffe also has a large travel section and should have them, if you are more over that way.

Monica,

I should have brought mine when I saw you last. I have a big honking Michelin atlas. It's from 1999 but it's still applicable for much of what you are doing. (save for the location of the new Avignon train station - that is wrong, as I don't think ground had broken yet? or whatever).

I am wracking my brains right now thinking of big bookstores. close to Notre Dame (not on the Ile) is a big huge bookstore, very famous, name escapes me. Gilbert Jaune maybe?

let me know if you need more help..

Beth
