Yes, the steering wheel is on the left. Yes, you drive on the right hand side of the road (unlike England, etc.) Yes, drivers KEEP TO THE RIGHT except to pass (UNLIKE THE USA, where most people don't have a clue about driving).

Can I add just a little to Mary Fran's directions to Palazzo Ravizza. Turn left imediately after entering Porta San Marco (signed for Palazzo Ravizza). Proceed along the wall, thru a stop lite controlled oneway section. Turn right at the next intersection (signed for Palazzo Ravizza). Proceed up hill for two blocks and turn right (signed) and then look for the hotel mid block on the right side. We drove by the hotel twice without seeing it, only found it when we parked accross the street in order to turn around. Be sure that your reservation requests a garden view room, the view is spectacular.

We drove in Tuscany after picking up a car in Rome this July. I would recommend filling up at gas stations with attendants as we had some trouble with our credit card at one pump with no attendant. Otherwise, we had no trouble. Our car came with a GPS system which was wonderful. I could plug in our destination and the car would "tell" us when and where to turn. We also had several maps and learned enough Italian to ask directions. We loved Siena and can't wait to return. We also liked San G. but would suggest you go early to avoid some of the crowds and heat. Have a great time!
