DRIVE FROM ROME TO VENICE
Has anyone done it and how long does it take without site seeing? According to Mapquest, it's about 330 miles and will take 4 hours and 43 minutes. However, I find that Mapquest usually just divides the miles by 70 mph to get the time.
Thanks!

Hi S,
If all you want to do is get from Rome to Venice, I suggest that you take the train.
4:36 hr, 29E in 1cl at www.trenitalia.com.

Hi Sandy, I would sure anticipate it taking longer than say 5 hours. You can get a lot of trucks and very heavy traffic as you get closer to Venice. I have driven to Venice from Milan, to Venice from s/e Italy (up the Adriatic coast) but not directly from Rome to Venice. But having driven from Padua, from Bologna etc towards Venice (and than north of Venice) I have always experienced bumper to bumper traffic and lot of trucks (taking supplies to the countries north of Italy). If you could get to Venice before commute time it would be best traffic wise I believe. I say that as I have always been in horrible traffic around 6:00pm.

Yes - we drove from rome to Venice and it took about 4 hours to get to Piazzzele roma. We left rome about 9:30 and had a late lunch in Venice. Traffic was minimal.
But this was May - not prime tourist season - both times.
And getting to the airport may take longer.
