Drive and train distances in Italy

We're leaving in a few days; we were suppose to drive from Positano to Naples, drop our car off and train to Venice (8 hrs w/ a change in Rome). Now we're thinking of driving to Rome and training straight to Venice from there. Any opinions on these 2 options? We're hoping to save time and money.

Thank you.

That's how I would do it.

Or fly AlpiEagles.com

Best wishes,

I would take the train from Naples directly to Venice. It is a three hour drive to Roma at best and then you have to drop off the car and get to the train station and navigate time skeds, and it would be very time consuming.

You can relax on the train and arrive in Venice refreshed. I have done this same trip on the train and would do it again.

Thank you. Do you happen to know how long the train ride is from Rome to Venice?

We got on the train in Naples (8:15PM) and off in Mestre (6AM) approx. The train stopped in Rome but no change necessary.

It was a Monday night but the train was packed. People who got on in Rome had to sit on the fold-down seats in the aisles. Spend the money to reserve a seat - ESPECIALLY if you strongly prefer non-smoking!

Check www.trenitalia.com - - on Eurostar, the daytime service is about 4.5 hours; 1.5 to Florence and a little under 3 from Florence to Venice.

Good point, remember to check which type of train you are booking, get a Eurostar for the fastest trip.
Reserve your seats, and either class is fine in my opinion.

I would drop in Salerno and train from there--assuming the timing fits.

Hi Cassidy,

You won't have to change if you take the 8:00 PM night train Naples/Rome.

Bob: The trains Salerno/Venice seem to require at least one change of trains, or did I miss something?
