Albert, I don't think I have ever seen you in anything that would embarass me. Stop obsessing about it.

In agreement alihutch -- I also love Zara -- I am a tall girl too!

Well this thread has been fun reading. I'd like the "sport jacket required" set to get together with the "I can travel for a month with just a carry-on" set! DH and I are off for a three week 25th anniversary trip to Spain and Morocco next week. Neither of us are the torn jeans types. He has dragged a sport jacket to Europe on more than one occasion in the past. Last fall he took a suit and dress shoes to Rome because we had opera tickets. We don't want to be inappropriately dressed in Barcelona, but each time he wore the sport jacket (or suit) we saw at least half of those around us in much more casual clothing. This trip the priority for the luggage will be camera equipment and hopefully a nice batik shirt will suffice for Barcelona!

Ladies, ladies, please stop rubbing in the "tall girl" thing. I have to stretch to say I'm 5' 2 1/2" & you're giving me a complex.

sap, if you had spent as many years as I did, trying to get clothes to fit (thank goodness they have now worked out that women's legs also come in different lengths) you might not have a complex!

<<<Zara is one of my favourite shops....good for the taller woman and where I buy most of my clothes in the UK>>>>

Try here in Spain, sizes are different as the market is different.

I figured that as the 2 shops that sold stuff that fitted me in the UK were both Spanish, that Spain would be a good place to buy. Sadly didn't really have any clothes buying cash when I was in Barcelona last Sept....next time I hope!

I guess the grass is always greener, ali. It's difficult to find clothes in a size 2 or 4 with such a short inseam as I refuse to venture into the gawdawful teen department at my age. (Let's not even get into the dwarf shoe issue.) I have to have everything altered. But I guess you're right, I can always have material taken out of the length, but it's impossible for you to add it! Where do the petite Asian women shop? I've got to ask around. . . Maybe I should be planning a trip to Hong Kong instead.

Batik! No ... solid colors only or you will be the most obvious tourist in the joint. Unless you don't mind.

Good reasons to bring the sport jacket:

It's very handy to have along on chilly planed,

and my husband is fare liklier to get lucky.

Some men look weird in a sport coat but look fine in a suit. It is all about style and how one wears something. *Shockingly* the same clothes are available everywhere at this point. Euope does not have some secret fashion pact. Can we please get over this? Dressing "smart" means wearing clothes that fit and drape properly. Nothing more.

Justine and Travelgourmet have it correct. Those who cry x people are sooooo fashionable, well, I question where they have bothered going and whether they do more than reading "fashion" sites that only show models in " candid" shots.

Signed,
she with tattoos who dresses like Betty Draper half the time and like an aging botoxed punk the other half. I never feel under whatevered.

Barcelona is fairly casual to answer the question at hand. I would not wear beach shorts in a high end place, but for a man, pants and nice shirt are fine.

Settle down now. I should maybe have been more specific. During a trip to Indonesia, we bought some beautiful batik shirts. Yes, they really are batik but no they are not patterned, even though I do understand that is what most of us think we one describes something as batik. Sorry for the scare.
