doubts with my itinerary

Hi,
I am going for my first trip to Greece in February/March for two weeks with my girlfriend. We are budget travelers, which means that we have to stick to the public transport, stay in hostels, or budget hotels (not more than 20E per night per person). We’re trying to finalize our itinerary, which, for today, looks as it follows:

1. Train to Nafplio from Athens, sightseeing in Nafplio if time permits
2. Nafplio and Mycenae, night in Nafplio
3. From Nafplio to Pylos via Kalamata night in Pylos
4. Gialova Lagoon – birdwatching, night in Kalamata
5. From Kalamata to Sparta night in Sparta or Mistra
6. Mistra - sightseeing in the morning, night in Monemvasia
7. Monemvasia sightseeing night in Monemvasia
8. Early morning bus to Athens, sightseeing Athens night bus to Thessaloniki
9. Thessaloniki sightseeing and night
10. train from Thessaloniki to Meteoras
11. Meteoras sightseeing, afternoon bus to Delphi and night in Delphi
12. Delphi – sightseeing, afternoon bus to Athens night in Athens
13. Athens
14. Athens
15. Return

So, how do You think? Is this itinerary doable, or does it looks too bizarre? I realize it can be bit of exhausting, but since we’re young, and its only 14 days, I think we can get on. My doubt is if it’s doable since we have to rely on PT? We want to have sort of variety, so we’ve included Gialova on our map, which is a bit off the way, but looks quite easy to reach. I’m especially worried about the 3rd day, is it possible to get from Nafplio to Pylos in one day? Same question is if we can see Meteoras properly and catch the bus to Delphi?
We'd greatly appreciate any comments or suggestions!
Much thanks in advance!

You might try reposting with Greece in your title so peole know which country you are referring to.

Have you added up all the check out/travel/check in time in your itinerary? It looks like you could be using up your schedule just getting from place to place.

Not that there's anything wrong with that - but could you get a feel for the region(s) with far less moving around?

Any reason you are taking train to Nafplio? Do you have some railpass you need to use? Is it faster than the bus? I've heard that the trains in Pelopponese are like 'milk trains', stopping everywhere and going at walking pace... Comfortable KTEL bus is 2.5 hours to Nafplio, goes 6 or 8x a day. Just a thought.

It would seem to me that your plan is ambitious particularly on public transportation. With a car and 7 days we covered only a third of your planned trip, including Naphlio, the Mani, Gythio, Mystras and Monomevassia.
I would suggest you slow down and concentrate your trip in fewer areas and really take the time to experience them.

For instance your plan to travel from Nafplio to Pylos is through a mountain range and involves at least one change of busses. This is going to take much longer than you think; probably a whole day. Then you plan to virtually retrace your steps to Sparta.
Anyway if you would like to see our pictures of Mystras, Naphlion and Monemevassia just click on these links.

thank You for Your replies!
traveljan - the main reason is that we're arriving at the airport. i've found the "fast" train that goes from Athens airpoort to Corinth, so we don't have to go from the airport to the centre of Athens and than to the bus terminal. From Corinth we can decide should we hop on the train or bus. I thought of it as a quicker and easier way.

stanbr - nice pictures! the one with street and arch in Monemvasia just knocked me out!
ok, i will probably quit Pylos.
