Just for the record, I'm sure that St Cirq didn't mean to say "Monpazier is where Lascaux is" in her second post. Montignac maybe.

Ooops, exactly right, Greg. Thanks for catching that. Monpazier is a gorgeous bastide.It, too, will be crowded, and it's a bit of a haul from the main sites (I'd definitely visit it, though).

dgassa you are right, that's exactly where we stayed!! Robin was very friendly and made us feel extremely welcome. She has canoes and bicycles which can be borrowed.

The little village is lovely and we went for lots of walks in the surrounding areas. We drove to Cahors and to another little town a bit further down river that I don't know the name of that had a FABULOUS market.
