Doolin Accommodations

Well, I thought I was being silly for my very early trip planning, and my SO was getting worried about my obsession. But...just received word that Sea View House does not have rooms available (we need two) in...MAY 2006! Argh!!!! So, apparently I'm not early enough.

The Sea View folks recommended Horse Shoe House and Doonmacfelim. I have seen some comments on Doonmacfelim, but not on Horse Shoe. Anyone familiar with it? Welcome other recs as well.

Thanks!

Last month I stayed at "Aran View House Hotel" which is just a big B&B. Food was great, view of the sea and Aran Islands, nice owners and about a 15 minute walk to the pubs if you like me don't care to mix Guinness and County Clare's narrow roads late at night. If it means anything to you the village Catholic Church is next door (200 meters away).

What is your budget? We stayed at Ballinalacken Castle and it's worth the splurge. We had a view of the ocean and Aran Islands from our room. They have a restaurant and bar on premises if you like. We chose to go to the pubs and had a great time. Also, after breakfast you are allowed to explore the castle ruins. The views were amazing.

I can recommend Daly's House. We had a wonderful stay. The room was one of the best we stayed in the whole trip.

Oopsy

What have you heard on Doonmacfelim, as I too am looking for a place the end of October, and Sea View is full then, too. Aran View looks nice, but any other comments on Dalys??

Thanks, Pam

Uptown girl..Thanks for the recommendation. I'll take a look. I usually allow a splurge for a few nights, so maybe this will be it this time.

Yale...Is Daly's the one above a restaurant? Did you have any noise problems?

Pam...Most of what I have heard about Doonmacfelim is from doing a search for it here on the forums. Overall, comments suggest that it is nothing fancy but fine, no good views but quite close to pubs. Good food.

I think I may give Doonmacfelim a try, since it's rated fairly inexpensive, but a value find in Frommers..It's new, and it says it's "a great value in the heart of Doolin a few hundred feet from O'Connor's Pub, but surrounded by a dairy farm--standard furnishings with nice views of the countryside and town."

If it's referred by SeaView, let's hope it's nice! My hubby really wants to be close to town, so this may be our pick. I wanted the SeaView so bad, but oh well??

I plan on a trip report, when we get back, so maybe I'll have a new "great find" to report.. Pam

Hi Survfan,

I am staying at the Doolin Activity August 8th. I too thought it looked nice, but like you, would appreciate some feedback on it.

When are you going to be there?

Have a great trip!!!

What about Seascape B&B in Doolin? Haven't stayed there, but picked up the info from the boards. Good luck!

I believe survfan left the last week of July.

also check these threads:

http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...days&fid=2

and if you click on my name you should see another thread to Doolin accomodations from a few weeks ago and another one titled Pam & Rick's Itinerary. Both talk abot where to stay in Doolin.

I had this same thing happen to me and decided to go with Cullinan's or Daly's as I had seen both mentioned here. Checked out the map, and went with Cullinan's for this October.

Good Luck!
