Dole , France
I'm looking for a rail day trip from Dijon. The problem is the rail. Auxerre, Autun and some of the other towns are not reasonably accessible. Langres didn't get an overwhelming response. I'll be coming from Beaune so it's out.
I've searched on the web and have the main city site. I've not had this much trouble with searching since looking for chateaux "tours" in "Tours." Did you know Dole, Inc. has a salad museum? Elizabeth and Bob Dole come up, pineapple and Hawaii galore. There's even an artist William Dole, a Hoosier from Angola that I've never heard of and I'm a Hoosier too!
Searching here on the forum I only found one reference and it was positive.
Anyone have feedback?

This is not something I'll be able to answer, but I opened it out of curiosity, since I knew nothing about a Dole in France.
I don't quite understand your question. Maybe others who might actually know something also are a little confused by the question, and possibly that's why you're not getting a reply. You might consider clarifying what you are asking, if you think that might help.

Sure cmt.
Has anyone been to the town of Dôle, France (population about 20 thousand) southeast of Dijon about 20 miles? If so did you think it was worth spending a day there? Enough to do? A pretty little town? Or is it an ugly, industrial town that might best be avoided.

You could easily do a rail day trip to Lyon from Dijon. The TGV goes from one place to the other. Lyon is France's third largest city and is famous for its food.
From Dijon you do need a car to get to most of the cites in the countryside including Vezelay and Cluny (both of which are very worthwhile).

Dole is a fairly large, mainly industrial city. Let's face it. If there was any reason to visit it, we'd have all heard of it. It just isn't possible for a town that large to be a wonderful destination and nobody know about it, and you not be able to find any information on it.
What about Besancon? It's on my short list of "next times". Google Besancon Tourism and you'll find a couple of nice sites to look at.
