We will be in Paris the end of May for 9 days. My husband mostly wears collared polo/golf shirts and there is NO way he will wear one more than one day. And I do not believe I can wash them in the room sufficiently. So, to avoid packing 8 or 9 shirts...

How easy is it to find a laundromat? We are staying at Hotel du Pantheon. And what will the cost be for a load of wash? Any advice for using the washer/dryer there? Or alternatively, how expensive to send out a few shirts to have them cleaned?

Yes there are laundromats - I don't know specifically any near you hotel since when I've stayed in that area it has been in apartments. Most laundromats will do a "wash/dry/fold" servce so you don't have to hang around doing the laundry.

BUT - why don't you think you can wash them in the room? Many (most) places have heated towel rails and things dry very quickly.

Usually a cost of a load is around 3.50 Euro. If it's a really jumbo load, which it likely won't be, it could be 7.50 Euro, but we usually only use those machines for blankets or bed linens. The wash cycles run about 25-45 minutes, depending on the machine. Dryers are about 1 E per 10-12 minutes.

The number of laundromats in your neighborhood could vary, but I did a search around your hotel on www.pagesjaunes.fr and found these three:

There could be more that are much closer to your hotel - pages jaunes doesn't always have everything, so just take a look around for a "laverie" sign. You can also do a serach on this site for instructions on how to use the machines, etc. (It's not hard at all.)

..I would suggest that your hubbie does the laundromat tour ..he then might reconsider washing the shirts himself in the sink....With careful planning one can go weeks without a laundromat (unless small kids)IMO.

If you are concerned about drying time, try this savvy traveller's tip, taught to me by an uncle who had logged many countries on his world map: bring balloons...thats right, kids' party balloons, in various sizes and shapes. Simply blow up balloon, insert into the wet clothes and hang the whole garment up on a shower rod or door knob to dry-takes about half the time. It will also give your housekeepers a chuckle to see your briefs and T's all waving in the bathroom and their lives are NO vacation!

I don't think I could wash them b/c he sweats, alot! I use spray n wash on the armpits at home to make sure they get clean.

You could use a combo: self-serve coino-op laundry matts, drop-off service or dry cleaners, and maybe even spring for the hotel service if offered (yes i know it's expensive but possibly worth it to spare your vacation time).

If you are staying near the Pantheon (given the name of your hotel) we used a laundromat on Rue de la Montagne Ste. Genevieve. It's right across from the police station. It was 3.50 euros to wash and 1 euro to dry per 10 mins.
