Dog Bakeries?

Does anyone know if there are dog bakeries in Europe? Like ones that have specialty dog treats, etc? Does that sort of thing exist? I'm going to the Netherlands, France, Switzerland next year.

Paris has dog boutiques that sell treats, but I don't know any names.

I read about an American Women who opened a dog bakery in Paris. I think it was on the Adrian Leeds or Parlor Paris Website.

I don't know the answer to your question, but did you know tht once upon a time there were canine butchers in France? See:

http://wolf.ok.ac.kr/~annyg/english/image/pic_5.gif (no they did not sell food for dogs)
and http://perso.wanadoo.fr/cfp1870/im_g/gr_canine.jpg

And you can still get horsemeat in France--Though not an everyday dish in the typical French home.

hhhmmm, well. I wasn't suspecting the replies to go in this direction. I am a little amused however.

Suzanne2, thank you. I'll look that up while I am in Paris.

The one in Paris is Mon Bon Chien on rue Mademoiselle, 15th arrondisement.

Here is an ad they have on www.paris.org

Ira, no, no, she's looking for employment for her dog

Scarlett, yes, some nationalities in Russia eat horse meat, why not, do you think it's worse then pork or chicken? You are either vegetarian or not!

No Faina, I try not to think about people eating horses, or dogs and cats also.
I do not eat red meat, but that has nothing to do with it..it still makes me sad to see a horse lying on the ground, while a man gets ready to cut its throat.

I agree with Scarlett, we each have our prejudices when it comes to food, and mine is that I don't want to eat any domesticated animal, especially one that could be my friend.

There's a pretty wide spectrum of choices and preferences, between strict vegetarian and complete carnivore.

The Belgians eat horse meat. Especially smoked and thinly sliced on bread. A bit like bresaola really.
My daughter would kill me if I bought it though.

Sorry Synada, no help here. I've never heard of bakeries that sell dog biscuits in The Netherlands. You are more likely to find that in France.

I've never heard of it in Switzerland either.

What kind of dog do you have? At the beg. of this month, three pitbulls got loose from an apartment and attacked and killed a kindergarten student walking to school in Zürich. Legislation is now finally pushing through new laws for owners who have potentially dangerous dogs.

There's a dedicated horse meat butcher near the Rialto in Venice. Although I've never had the opportunity to try horsemeat, I don't see any difference between eating horses & eating cows.

I've never heard of or seen a dog bakery anywhere : just seen packeted treats in pet shops.

schuler,

I have 2 beautiful American Eskimo dogs. Sometimes they are referred to as Spitz. I love them so much.
