Kusadasi sounds like to much of a hyper-resort area for me. I'd like to stay in a seaside town, it does not necessarily need to have a great beach, as long as we can drive to one. I want somewhere that has some authenticity left, if possible, and a few good restaurants. I would be using this place as a base for Ephesus.
If you have any hotel recommendations also, no more than $90 US per night that would be great. I'm really struggling with trying to identify where to stay in this area. I have identified a few alternates, but it seemed that the only hotels they had these places were huge 4 & 5 star resorts, I'd like a smaller place.

It was several years ago, but we stayed in a wonderful hotel about fifteen minutes outside of Kusadasi called Kismet. It was very reasonable and easy driving distance to Ephesus. It had a pool and a diving pier, but I don't recall a beach, but we were there in October and were not interested in a beach. There is a great public beach near Kusadasi called Lady's Beach. We took a bus there when in Kusadasi on a cruise. It was clean and for $5.00 we rented two chairs and an umbrella for the day.

Thanks for the replies, I had e-mailed the Kismet a few days ago and their quote is a bit out of our price range. They quoted $125 per night for a double, which is really good, but I was trying to keep this a very cheap trip ($90 per night and under).
I'm not completely ruling it out, and am glad to see that it's on the outskirts of Kusadasi. It seems like it would be a more serene location.

$125 per night is a fantastic price for a place like Kismet. It's actually walking distance from Kusadasi but very resort-like and beautifully kept and landscaped. This much of a monetary splurge would be very much rewarded in terms of amenities and comfort.

Not a specific recommendation, but try www.nisanyan.net. Mr. Nisanyan has written a book and hosts a website Small Hotels in Turkey. The website lets you search by price and location. We stayed in Mr. Nisanyan's own hotel in Sirince in 2003 (near Kusadasi but up in the hills in a small village, close to Efes) and the hotel and he could not have been lovelier. Have fun planning your trip!

Hi, I went to Kusadasi in 1993, so bear in mind that it was a while ago. I stayed in a hotel called Cengizhan which is situated opposite the Pine Bay (?) Hotel. Cengizhan was basic, so may be too basic for you, although it was great for us. The restaurant at the front was very popular with the locals though. The Pine Bay looked nice as it was on the beach, not sure about price. These two hotels are situated on the same stretch of beach as the Tusan. Hope this is of some help!
