Does anybody know where West Harham is?

Hello again. I know West Harham is near Salisbury but is it only a 15 minute walk away? I am looking at booking an apartment there. Do you know what it is like? Appreciate any feedback.

Thanks Deb

I assume you mean West Harnham?
There is a bus from the city centre to it - http://tinyurl.com/yofjbv is a pdf bus timetable i found on Google. No doubt you can find out how far the apartment is from wherever you arrive in Salisbury using one of the route planning sites, and decide whether it is walkable for you.

According to Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=West+H...i=map&ct=title) it's 2.2 miles, but that's from center to center, not address to address. If you know the address of the apartment, plug that into the same site and get a real answer. 2.2 miles is more like half or three-quarters of an hour, but the apartment could well be closer.

There's a footpath into town across Harnham Water Meadow, passing the cathedral and bypassing the road, that makes it a very great deal less than 2 miles away. 15 mins might be a wee bit optimistic, depending where exactly you are.

By any chance do you mean this flat? http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/ren...alisbury/25098

If so it is quite close to Salisbury and the Cathedral. But it calls it's location East Harnham so maybe you are talking about a different place.

This is a good example of the inadequacy of Google maps (and Multimap's no better.

Input the postcode into a mapping system and it looks as if you're in a slightly remote suburb, with a dull at best, complicated walk through suburban streets to get anywhere.

Actually, the street the flats are in changes its name (from Upper St to Middle St) a few yards from the flats, and about 200 yds along Middle St there's a footpath across the water meadow into town.

The near-useless electronic nonsenses make it look as if this path (Town Path) comes immediately to a full stop. They do this, presumably, because cars can't use it: but who on earth cares about cars? The continuing path is plain as a pikestaff on proper maps - designed as they are for sensible people, and not just for carbound couch poatoes.

I am not to sure what that last post was in regards to but we are great walkers and the car is to get us to our destinations. Where we can we would rather use public transport or walk. I just wanted to make sure this place was in walking distance to Salisbury.

thanks for your replies and I am sure I will be back Deb

" am not to sure what that last post was in regards to"

I'm pretty sure it relates to the "According to Google Maps . . ." post above. And that a proper map is often much more useful than some electronic version.
