Do Paris Metro Tickets Expire?

Hi, all -

I'm off to Paris in a couple of weeks, and I still have a carnet of tickets that I didn't use during my last visit four years ago. Can I still use them?

Thanks

- Sabrina

Try, and if they do not work, go to the guichet and they probably will replace the ticket with a valid one.

They don't expire but they are going to phase out selling those tickets by next year and replace them with the Navigo Easy card-just fyi

They don't expire, but they can lose their magnetic oomph. As stated, the person at the gate can replace them. (Though I have on more than one occasion forgotten to toss used tickets and mistook them for good ones.)

As for the coming change, I have some questions:
  • Will my Navigo card still work? (It's a relatively new one that I got this past May having traded in my long-time one.)
  • If so, will I be able to trade any paper tickets in for credit loaded onto the card -- or whatever replacement card I need?

Well, in the articles I have seen they imply that the paper tickets will continue to work until all of them have disappeared, but it will no longer be possible to buy a booklet of 10 paper tickets from mid-2020 while the end of the single use paper ticket is expected in 2021. So I guess you have time to use the paper ones for a bit yet. I am unclear that if you have paper tickets hanging around after 2021 whether they credit it to your Navigo card-but I am guessing they might...

The regular Navigo should still work-the replacement for the paper tickets is something called a Navigo Easy which won't require a photo so should make it easier for tourists for instance. Here's an article that might be useful

I was in Paris in May and had some metro tickets in my wallet from 2015/2016. They worked fine.

Is it a big burden to carry these and try and see if they work?

Your Navigo should work. My friend and I got the Navigo Decouvert a couple years ago and it is supposed to be good for five years I believe so you should just have to load it up.
