They don't expire, but they can lose their magnetic oomph. As stated, the person at the gate can replace them. (Though I have on more than one occasion forgotten to toss used tickets and mistook them for good ones.)
As for the coming change, I have some questions:
As for the coming change, I have some questions:
- Will my Navigo card still work? (It's a relatively new one that I got this past May having traded in my long-time one.)
- If so, will I be able to trade any paper tickets in for credit loaded onto the card -- or whatever replacement card I need?

Well, in the articles I have seen they imply that the paper tickets will continue to work until all of them have disappeared, but it will no longer be possible to buy a booklet of 10 paper tickets from mid-2020 while the end of the single use paper ticket is expected in 2021. So I guess you have time to use the paper ones for a bit yet. I am unclear that if you have paper tickets hanging around after 2021 whether they credit it to your Navigo card-but I am guessing they might...
The regular Navigo should still work-the replacement for the paper tickets is something called a Navigo Easy which won't require a photo so should make it easier for tourists for instance. Here's an article that might be useful
