I'm going to Italy in April. I guess I will have more to look forward to than just the good food and sites

A girlfriend of mine was groped on a Paris metro...she reached around and grabbed his hand and held it aloft and loudy asked, "Whose hand is this??" I guess he got laughed at...whether or not that stopped him I don't know, but she felt better about it.

Amen, cigalechanta!

We were 8 women of varying ages traveling to Rome last year and we all found the Italian men to be charming and absolutely non-threatening. Also, for the most part, very gorgeous!

Oh, PLEASE God, let them! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!? Let them begin Monday, say, around 4-ish in Venice? And let them end around, say, 2-ish (also in Venice) on the following Sunday? That works for me. Oh, and God? By the way: I'm willing to go 9 years in either direction!!!

I am his new girlfriend so he is all excited. I told him I would ask Fodorites if an almost 60 year old woman would still be flirted with.

You actually mean I might be flirted upon? I can hardly believe it even though I am fit as a fiddle and ready to pluck. LOL

I think the Italian men flirt no matter what their age. Have you thought of leaving the boyfriend at home and going without him?

Reminds me of a trip to Italy with my mother. I was 28 at the time. When she asked at the reception for a room for 2, her daughter and herself, the man replied with a charming smile : 'Your daughter? I thought she was your sister'.
My mother was delighted. I was less so !

There is a big difference between someone flirting with you (nice) and some perv groping you (nasty).

Oh and for the groped 15 year old, I have a theory that for some reason a lot of middle-aged men go funny in the head around girls aged 14-16. I was groped several times around that age (in England) but never before or since (in England). At the time I was too embarrassed/nervous/unsure what to do to deal with it properly but I wish I could go back in time and give them a damn good slap.
Doesn't make me think all English men are pervs though.

"Or travel to Northern Europe and he won't have to worry...."

That's an old myth in my experience as is wearing a wedding ring to stop unwanted attention.

I had my hand kissed several times! Once by a restaurant owner who also hugged my husband.

This is a fun post. It reminds me of a trip to Spain with my Mother and how many times there will be a nice (old) Spaniard starting conversations with her. I even took some pictures. Harmless and fun, why make a bigger deal.

Minerva-- if your new flame wants to take you to Italy, you go girl!

LOL thank you ladies (and any men). The new BF wants to spend his money now and live it up which sounds good to me. We live in a retirement community but the oldsters here couldn't flirt if they were paid to do so. I am a widow so I may as well start being merry. Thanks all.

French men of all ages flirt too, of course.

Before we actually moved to the Dordogne, we bought a lovely old car, and the lovely old man who sold it to us agreed to look after it for 6 months until we came back. (After all, he said, with a twinkle in his eye - I have the car and the money, how could I lose?')

Six months later we came back with my 25 year old sister, and my mother, then in her mid-70's - neither spoke a word of French. I warned them that we couldn't just pick up the car and leave, and of course we had to come in and have a drink.

After telling us that he had looked after the car for us, (had indeed kept it in the garage while he left his new car on the street!) Monsieur proceeded to flirt with both my sister and my mother. Eyes twinkling, compliments flying.

As we left, my mother said 'I don't know what he said, but those French men certainly are charming!' I couldn't agree more.
