Do hotels in Italy supply toiletries

Do the hotels in Italy and Greece supply toiletries such as shampoo and soap as most hotels in the USA do? I know that they don't usually provide a "washrag", but not sure about the shampoo/soap. One less thing to pack if they do. Thanks.

I think it depends to large extent on the level of hotel in which you are staying. In three stars or above, most likely, yes. In 2-stars, nicer locandas, pensiones, etc., you'll probably get soap, but only maybe shampoo/conditioner. In truly budget lodings, count on nothing and either bring your own or shop for it at the local market (which can be fun!) Travel sizes don't take up much space or weigh much though, and I figure I saved them for a reason....

Some do, some don't. The places I've stayed in Rome definitely do, although being something of a prima donna, I always bring my own.

Buon Viaggio,
BC

I agree with the above, in 3*, yes. But even if you find your hotel doesn't, it is easy enough to stop into a local shoppe (either department store or chemist's) and pick up what you need.

From our experience yes, even in the 2* places. I also still always bring my own.

Unfortunately, you never know what to expect unless you are staying in a 4-5* hotel. We always travel with our own soap (large bar), wash/face cloths, and shampoo.

The places we stayed did. However, none of the hotels provided irons for pressing your clothes nor will they lend you one. (It's against fire codes.) If your the type that likes a freshly pressed shirt, you'll either have to bring a travel iron or pay a pressing fee.
