There you are....http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...00002-0020.pdf before you write a report on a book you've never read, read the pdf document. Many people are being killed without their consent. Pains intensified, treatments withdrawn all in the Netherlands.

People, if you have beef with Santorum, take it with him, don't take it out with his faith or religion.

Those of you who hate religion and faith are just people who don't like to be accountable. You know that Faith or Religion requires you to be accountable to yourself, the society and God but you don't want anything to do with being accountable.

You believe in evolution, that makes you a believer too. Everyone believes in something. Allow people who believe in the one True God be...

Be saved in Jesus' name...Amen.

heca, you are misreading "Intensification of pain <i>and symptom treatment</i>" - that's talking about increasing the use of palliative drugs even though it will hasten death, something doctors have always done; indeed I don't think there's a medical jurisdiction in the world where doctors haven't "helped along" patients who are already dying, whatever the legal position. King George V's doctor even did it, though it wasn't revealed till decades later.

The question is, is this more likely where there is a legal framework allowing people legally to request voluntary euthanasia, or does the absence of such a framework prevent it?

Heca, first of all Welcome to Fodors. Nice to see someone join our happy troop with the need to get really intense travel knowledge (I guess for the Netherlands).

Anyway, on your link, while you write as though this is a recent document, in reality the link provided is from a 1999 report on actions that may or may not have happened in the pre-1996 time span.

While this thread does belong in the Lounge and not really on the travel forum, I will ask Heca if he/she believes that Jews/Muslims/Catholics/Mormons believe in the "...one True God..." Problem being is that most evangelicals say they do not, when in actuality all believe in the God of Abraham. Hmmm, that makes things difficult when one condemns others.

not worth a sign line

If I am wearing a "do not euthanize" bracelet, but my wife is telling doctors to go ahead and euthanize me, does anyone know which takes precedence?

If the doctor asks "Are the neighbours onside with this?" you're in trouble.

Thinking this would be a fun novelty product to sell to the Dutch, like all the various colored rubber logo bracelets I see; lots of sales for giggles?

cold, I believe your wife has durable power of attorney for all your health decisions. There's no use in your arguing with the EMTs, or struggling.

Just take it.

I do wonder what Dutch does, though. Does he have "Do Not Euthanize" emblazoned on his Speedos?

I believe Dutch has "Already Euthanized" tatooed just inside his speedo.

Poor Dutch has given up Fodor's for Lent so is unable to protect himself from scurrilous gossip.

Serves him right for taking a break from us.

Be saved in Jesus' name...Amen.>

and if you grew up in Saudi Arabia you would be saying 'be saved in Mohammed's name, amen.

Pity the poor Christian proselytizer who cannot even see why they believe what they believe - a product of their culture and upbringing

Jesus - absolutely zero proof of any historical Jesus yet sadly some folks believe in Him without one scintilla of evidence. Wake up and get rationale!

cold: I'm going to pair you up with heca at a party. Then you'll beg to be euthanized.

If you are a Christian you should not lie or purport things to be true that simply are not - at least not more than even here where both my parents were euthanized in religious-affiliated hopsitals by increasing the pain medication, resulting in death - a humane death - we do it here just like the do in Holland.

and you should repent for spreading lies - you sinner! Now 100 Hail Marys please and you'll be OK.

<You believe in evolution, that makes you a believer too.>

heca, I hope you meant that in a tongue-in-check way. But if not, you might be a bit confused.

One does not "believe in" evolution any more than one believes in gravity. It's a scientific concept. It is not a religious doctrine. It doesn't attempt to promise life after death, describe God, or set forth a system of moral behavior.

Apples and oranges.

I'm still puzzling over the claim that those who are not born-again Protestants reject all personal accountability.

Obviously, agnostics, atheists and practitioners of non-theistic religions such as Buddhism don't believe in accountability to a Divine Being.

But my sense of my accountability to conscience, to society and to other individuals is actually pretty strong.

Weird comment.
