Dinner in Bologna.

My wife and I will be on a train to Florence from Venice with light overnight bags.

I wonder about the possibility of stopping for dinner in Bologna and, after then, continuing on to Florence.

How far is the train station, in Bologna, from, say, Da Cesarina? Walk? Cab? If do-able, then, any restaurant suggestions?

Thanks.

If there are those who would reply and give advice to those asking about the size of golf bags to bring when they go golfing in Europe, or whether there are Irish food in Irish restaurants in Ireland, then I'm sure there's someone out there who can help with my post.

To the top.

Rcc - Do you mean Cesarina in via S. Stefano? If yes, you might want a taxi - it's 3.3 km from the station.

Stopping in Bologna sounds a great idea, but NB*

- The last train to Florence SMN (main station) leaves Bologna at 21.46

- Later trains (22.06 and 22.21) stop at Firenze CAMPO MARTE station, not SMN.

Hope this helps ...

Hi rcc,

Considering the long walk back to the train station from San Stefano, I would recommend Nuovi Notai, just off Piazza Maggiore. We had dinner there, and it was very good. They open at 7:30.

Nuovi Notai (dinner) Via de' Pignattari 1
Mon-Sat noon-2:30pm and 7-11pm Reservations required Phone 051-228-694 Main courses 9.35€-15.60€; fixed-price menus 26€-36.40€ Credit Cards AE, DC, MC, V
To get here directly from train station take Via delle Independenza south past Piazza Nettuno to Piazza Maggiori. Go left. Via de' Pignattari 1 is first street on your right.

There is a very good gelato shop on your way into town. From train station take Via delle Independenza (at east end of train station) south. At Via Augusto Righi go left 3 blks to Gelateria Moline, Via delle Moline 13.

Enjoy your day.

Thanks, Steve, for your useful information.
However, I just checked at trenitalia.com and the 22:46 ES departure will stop at SMN on the day that we're planning for. Also, given the distance of Da Cesarina, I may opt for a much closer restaurant.

Thanks, Ira, for recommending and providing precise information on Nuovo Notai.

The best meal I had in Bologna was Da Cesari, not sure of spelling. 2 minute walk from piazza Maggiore...I think what I liked most was that their menu was more creative then all the other big names there...One night we just ate the whole right side of menu which were the apps..The wine is made by their uncle..

There's actually a better gelateria which is closer to the train station. It's called Stefino, and is on Via Galliera. If walking down Via Indipendenza coming from the train station, Via Galiera one street over to the right, running parellel with Indipendenza.

As far as restaurants near the station, La Baita is very good. It also happens to be literally next to Stefino. It's maybe a 5 minute walk from the station. De Cesarina is about a 15 minute walk.
