Dingle, Ireland

We've narrowed it down and have received return emails.

For 3 nights in Sept. should we take:

Pax House----sea view double(larger sea view or balcony room unavailable. I suppose we could ask to get better room if a cancellation comes in))
Or
Greenmount House---Superior sea view room

I would read the reviews on tripadvisor.com if you haven't already done so. We spent two weeks in Ireland lsst September. We selected every place we stayed (mainly B and B's), based on information from this board and trip advisor.
We were not disappointed in any of our choices!! We spent three days in Dingle at Heaton's Guesthouse and loved it.
We had a sea view room, and it was nice, but only you can determine just how much time you will really spend in your room gazing out at the sea. And the "sea" is actually an inlet of Dingle Bay-at least where we were, and it is very tidal. When you drive the Dingle Peninsula, then you will really see the "sea"-the North Atlantic, but not from Dingle Bay.

SusieKay---thanks for the input. Yes, I have been reading Trip Advisor endlessly as we do for all trips.

We've decided to go with Greenmount House mostly because of a friend who recently returned from there. There are so many good reviews on Trip Advisor that sometimes it's hard to make that final choice.

Any other tips, restaurants, etc. would be appreciated.

Would suggest you ask your B&B host/hostess for restaurant/pub recommendations. We did in Dingle and weren't disappointed.

We were in Dingle 10-13 September 2009, and were right in the middle of the first annual Dingle Marathon. We were so glad our host advised us the road around the Dingle Peninsula would be closed the day of the marathon, and suggested we plan a drive for another day. We actually enjoyed watching the beginning and end of the marathon right in front of our B and B. Don't know if it will continue for this year, but if you will be there during that time, do check. We seldom request or offer restaurant recommendations, but prefer to just peruse the menus and eat at a time and location that suits us. We found most pubs in Ireland to offer good, tasty, reasonably priced meals. The same was true in Dingle.

I would love to have some recommendations on B&B's in Dingle also. I have already looked up Heaton's, Pax House and Greenmount House and they look very nice, a little more expensive than a couple of other places I heard about. Still, would love anyone's input.

We just spent four nights at the Greenmount House and loved it. It was the nicest B&B of the trip, and we will absolutely stay there again the next time we're in Dingle.
Our room was really spacious and beautiful, as is the entire home. The breakfast was the best we had in Ireland, their menu is really fabulous, the savoury omelette was my favorite.
John and Mary Curran were fabulous hosts, as well. John spent a lot of time talking with us and giving us tips that I'm sure he's spent a lot of time giving to other travelers, but he did so happily and he made us feel right at home.
Basically, we LOVED Greenmount House, and I can't wait to go back.

Ashes Bed and Breakfast is located just 1 min from main street Dingle. It does not have great views i.e Dingle Bay but it is a lovely house and Triona/Robert will offer you a very warm welcome

Heaton's Guesthouse is indeed very nice but in my humble opinion is very expensive and if you want spectacular views etc you be better off staying in Ventry (4 miles from the town) as some of the B&Bs have great views of Ventry Bay (Have you ever seen a full moon over Ventry Bay ? Well it is great) . Torann Na Dtonn is a B&B in Ventry with great sea views and reasonably priced

In regards to restaurants as stated Bar food is very good value . e.g John Benny's and Murphy's Pub but my favourite (non Bar Food) is the Goat Street Cafe - excellent value

Please note be wary of Tripadvisor as (I personally know) some comments been posted there on accommodation in Dingle are not legit...

heyjude999; Thank you so much for the input. I will be sure to check out Ashes B&B. When we were there last September we only had some dessert at one shop so I am happy to get "food" suggestions. It is good to get recommendations from all sources, though I have found Tripadvisor reliable. I myself have listed my good comments about a B & B we stayed at in Clonakilty, but I am sure there are those that are not legit. Thanks again!
