Thanks everybody! I'm sure this discussion will help other planners, and it definitely helped me. I feel like I can't go wrong with either choice, but I did choose Heaton's Guesthouse and I'm looking forward to it. Hard to explain why I selected Heaton's over Greenmont. After you fill your head with facts and info, if places are looking pretty equal, in the end you have to go with "just a feeling" about what suits you.

Many thanks for the interesting discussion!

We had a wonderful dinner at Doyle's, also, which included the very best lobster of my life! : )

While waiting for our table, my husband and I met a couple from Minnesota, and later an English woman traveling alone. The 5 of us ended up dining together, and a most wonderful evening was had by all -- just a chance encounter, but we all were quite simpatico and it was a grand time. The food was excellent, and the Doyle's staff was superb, too.

Happy dining in Dingle -- there are many good places.

Suelh, my older daughter adores lobster, maybe we will take her to Doyle's. What were the prices like for lobster? Is there a lobster season? What season were you at doyle's? thanks for the tip.

The lobster was expensive, just as it is in the United States -- but well worth it! We were there in October '04 (you have seen my Trip Report, I think). Have no idea re "lobster season" or what the dinner would cost when you arrive, i.e., two years later. At any rate, the others in our party ordered other less-expensive dinners, and each was most pleased with his/her meal. Doyle's was a fun place.

Happy dining, whatever you decide to do!

We stayed at Heaton's June 04.
We had a Jr. Suite on the ground floor which was really terrific....beautifully decorated, very large room and very large new looking bathroom.

Breakfast was great and the people were very pleasant.

We were very happy campers and I'm sure you will be too!

I tried booking Greenmount House for the first week in February, 2006. They told me they would be closed for remodeling. For the people that say it's getting run down, this is a good sign!

suelh: Well, in that case, we'll talk my daughter out of the lobster. (We took her for lobster for her birthday.) Anyway I'll add Doyle's to my list of restaurants to check out for dingle.

LynFrance, thanks for sharing, very reassuring to hear someone else enjoyed Heaton's!
