The number 1800 is a load capacity of the battery, the higher the number, the longer it will last under load, others are 1700 and 1600.

A similar thread suggested borrowing as many memory cards from your friends as you can (and be willing to lend yours) as a way of having memory to take with you without a digital wallet. Before our last trip I bought a small 110/220 v charger and several sets of batteries and it worked great.

drsawyers - thanks to the references for digital wallets. We have been looking into the Mindstor, but have found that many peoply are sending them back because of problems with the drive - something we don't want to risk is losing all our holiday photos!

also, for those interested in purchasing extra memory - Costco has a special on at the moment that is 256mb compact flash cards for $69.99 with a $10 rebate. I'm pretty sure that's what we got (my husband bought it) but I will check with him and let you know!

Has anybody used the digital wallets and have opinions on whether their's is good or bad?

Thanks<BR
Here is another storage possibility:

http://www.compuplus.com/insidepage.php3?refer=cnet.com&id=1000301#more info

20GB, CompactFlash compatible and seems to have a color screen for viewing (probably low res, but still useful for sorting out photos).

I think the most trusted digital camera battery is Canon. It is not NiMH battery,is Li-ion battery. It is now up to the most widely used.CANON NB-7L Digital Camera Battery. Many types of chargers are applicable

I get a lot of my technical stuff on ebay...at walmart it's easy to buy rechargeable AA batteries but I was really surprised for the most part the chargers that come with them are not dual voltage but rather 110...however I easily found chargers on ebay for about $10..

As far as memory, maybe I'm missing something. My digital camera used SD memory cards and I pay around $35 - $40 for a 16 gb card and checking ebay cf cards are a tad more expensive but easily less than $50 for a 16gb card....while for pragmatic reasons since I have my notebook computer with me to use the internet, each night I download the pictures to the computer but don't feel it necessary to erase the memory card....for a two week trip the 16gb memory card is hardly taxed unless I do a lot of videoing and then it is taxed a tad but I've never run out of memory or even come close to running out of memory. Of course if I were in any danger of running out of memory, I could download to the computer and then erase the memory card.

Again maybe I'm missing something....all this stuff is dirt cheap on ebay...much of it comes from Hong Kong and frankly I've never had any trouble whatsoever with any of the merchants from Hong Kong I use.
