Dessert in Amsterdam

Where would you take someone for a Birthday evening dessert?

We will be having dinner in apartment (Jordaan area) but wanted to go somewhere special for dessert.

The Amsterdam American Hotel would be a place to consider. It is very nice. http://tinyurl.com/2nleqo

Closer to your apartment is Cafe Luxembourg. http://www.luxembourg.nl/. That's one of my favorites and a bit lively compared to the American Hotel.

d'Vijff Vlieghen, The Five Flies, is an historic restaurant a little bit north of the Cafe Luxembourg. http://tinyurl.com/2pu768.

I have heard of this restaurant. What a name.

Actually the dinnercruise looks fun.
Have you been on it?

Thanks for the links.

I ate in the Five Flies many years ago. It is unique. I don't know about the dinner cruise. If the weather is good I imagine it would be a night to remember fondly.

In general food on the dinnercruises isnot that great. Better make a "wine and cheese" evening cruise.

As you're already in the Jordaan, why not visit Claes Claesz, on Eglantiersstraat? The restaurant sources local produce wherever possible, and likewise, makes everything from bread to ice cream in-house wherever possible.
Their website, unfortunately, is in Dutch, but it's www.claesclaesz.nl if you want to take a look
